Dancer Shooting in Kapfenberg

... while the winter are closing in

The shooting season is upon us -- International Space Station 16/01/2016

My father-in-law Enrico (afterwards known as Henri or Rico) belonged to the Ender-Rezzonico family of Castagnola in Ticino, now incorporated into Lugano. I have some of the ancient family papers and among them is this card that was awarded to one Elvezio, perhaps Enrico's brother, with an "honorable mention" for target shooting when he was a recruit in the Swiss army.

I have no idea why this was kept: Rico left Switzerland when he was 19 and thus avoided military service - he worked in a circus in France and later as a racing boat mechanic, and my husband did his 16 months of service in the French army as he had dual nationality.

Verso of the certificate in the comment thread.

A candid I grabbed at a wedding last month. The bokeh on the 1.8 lens are a bit extreme...sometimes you just have to embrace it.

A photo shoot at White Waltham airfield.

A collection of my favorite shots of sandstone. From San Francisco to San Diego, I have shot sandstone, cliffs, rocks, formations, caves, whatever. If it’s sandstone and it looks cool, I shoot it.

This cliff is at my favorite place on the California coast, Pescadero State Beach.

Just before the heat finally broke and torrential rain replaced it ... shooting in the grounds of Auchterless Kirk. Always fun - shooting the photographer ;o)

Happy Monochrome Bokeh Thursday! ;o)

I felt a little paparazzi-ish doing it, but I fired this frame through my windshield on my way to the airport to pick up my MIL this evening. Seriously - how could I NOT?

First and foremost, a huge thank you to Jürgen Sturany

for giving me this generous opportunity to take on a photo shoot. Aside from street photography, this was my first experience with studio photography, and I had an incredible time.

The first serious run using the new one shot colour cooled astro cam with a built in guide sensor, ZWO 2600 MC Duo. Mounted to a Takahashi FSQ106N. To use this I had to use my old Celestron CGEM2, my first EQ mount. Easy to use, but heavy and doesn't guide that well, Still, it was fine for this. Bendelby, South Australia. Taken with a Sigma 28mm lens, Nikon Z9

I only ever drink shots if somebody buys me one.

These guys are nice to us..they even asked me to try to shoot their hunting guns :)

Loaded up the Nikon F4 with film. Took some shots today, funny how much more selective I am when I am shooting film.

I am going to shoot a lot more film!

Joe is a very talented nature photographer who shoots only on transparency film, and always has. Always will, too. He travels the art fair circuit selling his work. One of his photographs graces my bedroom wall. His photos are displayed under his canopy with a sign that reads something like:

"No digital photography. I don't create moments, I record them."

Does this imply a disdain and/or distrust of digital photography because, presumably, it can be surreptitiously manipulated, or that shots can be improved or corrected and are no longer accurate recordings of the moment? I don't know.

I do know that I've met him a few times. The fact that he's an extremely nice guy is the primary reason that I didn't grill him about the fact that he shoots Velvia at 40 ISO - a popular strategy employed to richly saturate the color (Velvia is rated at 50). The results are gorgeous, but not remotely accurate representations of the "moment".

I intend to give him a good-natured ribbing about the interesting conflict between his signage and his acquisition practices the next time I see him.

I'm that kind of guy. :D

I often shoot landscapes in winter as the air is clearer and the sunsets are earlier. Although this one was taken with my phone!

During my four-day loss of internet service, I decided I had enough images to start another collection, Shooting Sandstone.

From San Francisco to San Diego, I have shot sandstone, cliffs, rocks, formations, caves, whatever.

Going through the images and picking the best was something I have been thinking about for a while now. Thanks to AT&T, I finally had time.

I'd like to thank Sandra Herber for coming out west and being a great companion for about a week of shooting in Alberta and Saskatchewan. This was at Abraham Lake in the Alberta Rockies where we went to shoot the methane bubbles in the ice.
