Jizou Bosatsu (地蔵菩薩) or Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is the principal image of worship (本尊) for Kenchouji. Kstigarbha is associated with Pure Land Buddhism (浄土教). He is easily identified by his monk-like shaved head.
Pure Land buddhism assumes that Buddhism started to decline after the death of Gautama Siddhartha. It asserts that the Latter Days of Buddhist Law (末法) would come in 2000 years after his death, which will continue for 10,000 years until the Amitabha Tathagata (阿弥陀如来) will appear to save his devotees by taking them to the Pure Land.
Jizou is tasked to soothe and take care of the people during the Latter Days, in which we live today.
In my opinion, Pure Land Buddhism is a millenarian cult in disguise of Buddhism, while Zen preserves the original concept of Buddhism, which is for individuals to attain enlightenment through asceticism.
Maitreya Bodhisattva (弥勒菩薩) and Vairocana Tathagata (大日如来) are also Latter Days deities of Buddhism.
Butsuden (仏殿) or the image house of Kenchouji was moved here in 1647 from the Zoujouji temple (増上寺) in Edo (present-day Tokyo). It was originally built as the mausoleum for the wife of Tokugawa Hidetada (徳川秀忠 1579 - 1632), the second shogun of the Edo (Tokugawa) shogunate.
The wooden statue of bodhisattva dates back to the Muromachi period (室町時代 1336−1573).
Nijo Castle's legendary Ninomaru Garden and it's koi pond, which is lined with decorative boulders gathered throughout all corners of Japan, were designed in 1626 on the castle grounds for Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa (Edo) shogunate (1603–1867). If you have read James Clavell's novel "Shogun" or watched the Shogun TV series, you're already familiar with Tokugawa Ieyasu because Clavell based the warlord 'Lord Toranaga' on him.)
Lord Tokugawa unified Japan in 1600, following twenty six years of civil war at the end of the 16th century. In 1601 he directed Japan's daimyos (feudal lords) to construct Nijo Castle as his Kyoto residence in a location very close to the Imperial Palace.
The castle grounds, completed in 1603 (amazingly after only two years!), are spectacular, covering 68 acres (27.5 hectares) which include 86,000 sq ft (8,000 sq m) of buildings including two palaces, ponds, rock gardens, and inner- and outer moats. It is now a World Heritage Site.
Upon completion, Tokugawa moved in and hosted a ceremony wherein Japan's Emperor announced to the gathered feudal lords his appointment of Tokugawa as Shogun. Tokugawa's main residence and his new seat of government was in Edo (now called Toyko), so this huge Nijo Castle was akin to his 'country home' used primarily whenever he visited the emperor in the Imperial Capital.
In 1614 the shogun led his samurai army from Nijo Castle on his victorious Siege of Osaka Castle which ended the line of the Toyotomi family, his last political opposition, and established himself as the absolute polical ruler of Japan. His shogunate lasted two hundred sixty four years. In 1857 the 15th Shogun of his line, Tokugawa Yoshinobu, ended shogunate rule and returned political control to the Emperor as Japan opened to the world.

Vintage board game
This game plays on a 8×8 grid, with each player having 7 pawns and 1 King, which start lined up on opposite sides of the board. Each player can remove the other's pieces by moving onto them, as in chess.
But what sets this game apart is that there is a window on each piece, which shows a number indicating the number of moves that piece can make. And due to the working of many magnets under the board, the number automatically changes depending on which space the pawn or king is on.
Each of the pawns responds differently on the board. After several games the board can be rotated to keep the players guessing.
Before Ninjago there was a samurai castle theme called Ninja in the 1990s.
I only had two small sets from that theme #6013 and #3018, but still feel nostalgic whenever I see some of these old sets and minifigs.
Maybe I’ll also build something from that theme, the Summer Joust would be a great opportunity.
Hope you like these three minifigs.
I created some more minifigs fitting that old Samurai theme but these were the best and I don’t have enough of these cool looking custom katanas yet.

A crowd favorite. The shogun is a racer taking part in the Meteor League races. It appeared one day on the track and started to win one race after another. No body ever saw its pilot's face nor its internal specs. The only hint is an old japanese flag on its tail fin...
I just LOVE november!
Stopped by Osaka Castle last week and saw this sunflower in the courtyard. Thought I should compose a shot with the castle behind. Who knows how long this sunflower has been around.
Oh that one will be a surprise.
Done for the great Luke Rook / Grody Shogun who commisioned me by surprise for this surprise, which is just surprisingly...weird! :D
