Nala's full name is Nala Kari. A few days ago, Keira and I were discussing the puppy's middle name. (Nala is from the movie, Lion King. A bit ambitious for such a tiny puppy...)
Keira wanted something "snappy". We tossed around "Mari" because it went so naturally with Nala (and it sounded like calamari). I suggest that she switch it to Kari to pull in the "K" from Keira. The resulting "Nala Kari" sound like a dyslexic version of "calamari". As such, I've already given the puppy a nickname of "Little Squid". (And it looks like she's been "inked"...)
Okay, okay. The reflections from the flash make her look as gray as I do. Nevertheless, she's almost solid black...
Keira's been begging for a puppy for a couple of years. Kel and I finally gave in...
Yesterday, Keira and I drove down to Tennessee, just past Bristol, to pick up her new puppy. With the stops, almost a six hour round trip.
Nala is a cross between a shit-tzu and a poodle, commonly known as a shih-poo. (Although I prefer shihtty-poop...) She's about five pounds and will probably get up to 9 or 10 pounds. (Both of her parents are under 10 pounds.)
Keira is SO excited. Saturday night, she stayed up late so she could sleep late - I told her we weren't going to leave any earlier than 10 a.m. (I had a homebrew club meeting on Saturday...)
This was a throwaway shot, waaayy underexposed. I was able to somewhat massage the RAW into a passable photo. Yay.
After today's beach walk we spotted quite a few wild kangaroos on our way home on the northern end of the Gold Coast. Of course the powers that be made this happen on a day when 35mm was my longest focal length I brought. I really do hope that tomorrow that backpack arrives so that I have all my lenses with me at all times! Anyway, I will go through the pictures and see if there are a few good crops in them.
The day picture is dedicated to Jack who really enjoyed watching the kangaroos and who was sniffing like a drug detection dog on duty. Even though almost always being silent he sometimes barks and growls at cows so it was interesting to see he didn't mind the kangaroos at all.
Originally, Barley refused to acknowledge Nala's existance. Now Barley will initiate play. Despite her ferocious appearence and sounds, Barley is remarkably gently with Nala. (As you'd hope, given that Barley is ten times heavier than Nala...)
Nala, on the other hand, doesn't hold back in the slightest...
If Nala feels that Barley is ignoring her entreaties to play, she will bite Barley on the ear or tail and just hang there...
Needless to say, but I'm not sleeping any more...
Sometimes, when she sits down, she pulls her front feet off of the ground and leans back. It's entirely too cute...
Of course, I couldn't get a picture...
(She's still wet from her bath in this picture...)
When Barley isn't chasing Nala around the house, she'll lie down so playing field is evened out (somewhat).
So, we went canoeing and we just came back, Boots of course had a lot of fun, she tried to drink that whole lake while we were paddling. But anyways, her hair looks kinda funny because it was sooo windy! Normally her bangs are back out of her eyes...And her nose looks really long here...Grr.
I was very luck to get this picture, because she was moving moving moving!...Like always. lol
Sorry to keep uploading so many photos of Rosie but, she's sooooo adorable (I think) and photogenic. I was shooting more photos of her this morning and captured this one with her tongue partly sticking out. It's just too cute!
Took some pix of Pip and Sam yesterday too. Might share them later. They definitely will all be on my blog soon.
