Anker Clock
The at the house attached board is informing about the clock
The Anker Clock is a great music box at the house of Helvetia Insurance (formerly Anchor Insurance) at Hoher Markt in the center of Vienna. The Anker Clock is one of the most outstanding works of Art Nouveau and is a popular tourist attraction.
History
The Anker Clock is a bridge-like connection between the two building parts of anchor court (Ankerhof). It was built on 22 August 1914. The "Uhrbrücke (clock bridge)" has a span of ten meters and a height of 7.5 meters. The clock itself has a diameter of four meters. It was built between the years 1911 and 1914 according to the plans of Art Nouveau painter Franz Matsch. It is a tribute to famous personalities of Viennese history. These figures are reproduced as copper and have a Roman numeral for the hour on the head, while the minute indicator also goes through a horizontal scale.
The movement itself was made by the k.u.k. Court and chamber clockmaker Franz Morawetz.

This photo appeared in the News, Volume 12, Number 17, September 29 to October 13, 1986. The text was:
"Police stress investigated
Mr Roger Peters, a tutor in the Department of Psychology has just returned from an overseas investigation of police stress.
Mr Peters who has been studying and treating police stress in NSW was asked by the Police Commissioner to carry out this investigation. Mr Peters stated that “the Police Department now accepts stress as a physiological condition and a naturally occurring event where as it was previously seen as a weakness.”
Mr Peters was particularly interested in how other police tried to prevent it, what programmes had been implemented to combat stress and the success of these programmes.
One hundred individuals, all men, from both the management and regular police levels were interviewed in a number of police forces in the USA and England.
Mr Peters found that in general the same factors cause stress worldwide with only a few factors being specific to a region. He explained that policeman experience two types of stress. Short term or acute stress is brought on by passing events such as an outbreak of terrorism and police generally recover from this. Long term or chronic stress is of more concern and affects about 10 per cent of police. The main causes of this stress are:
•Individuals distrust of their superiors.
•Mistrust of politicians.
•A general mistrust by the public of police and a fear of being investigated because of the bias towards the public in such investigations.
•Unfulfilled promises especially with regard to promotions.
•Shiftwork.
•Work overload.
•Pay and conditions – as high as 50 per cent of police overseas have second jobs and Mr Peters feels it may be the same here.
Stress caused by these factors is most commonly evidenced by obesity, alcohol or other drug abuse, coronary disease and gastric disorders. Perhaps one of the most important causes of stress can be related to morale between management and the police.
The table below shows the assessments made out of tem on morale.
America England
Management 7 7
Policemen 2 6
As can been seen there is a good level of moral between management and police in England and a poor level of morale between these two groups in America.
This was found to be the main reason for few workers compensation cases arising as a result of stress and a much lower incidence of alcoholism in England compared to the USA. A unique factor which did cause stress for police in England was the restriction that prevents them carrying appointments (guns).
Some of the other causes of stress have been addressed overseas. For example in Huston all junior police officers work night shift exclusively for two years, then they work afternoon shift for two years and then go onto the day shift until they are promoted at which time they restart this cycle. This has been found to reduce stress.
In the area of conditions overseas police are offered good retirement benefits after 20 years which many police take advantage of. In NSW conditions associated with retirement after 20 years are poor and thus very few police take advantage of them.
Sometimes efforts which are made to overcome stress actually generate stress. This is the case in NSW where community based programmes have been promoted to improve the image of the police. Such programmes are a good idea but as they are very taxing from the point of view of job time and as no extra police have been appointed they create extra stress for already overworked police.
Mr Peters identified a number of programmes to deal with stress which were good in principal but were not communicated well and so were not functioning well. An example of this was the Lalulmi programme in the USA. This is a care group programme based on peer counselling. It is aimed at officers looking for stress in follow officers and offering support, however, it is not used enough because officers fear that confidences will later be used against them. Mr Peters feels this demonstrates a typical problem of the approach used by management in the USA. Specialists decide on how to approach stress without consulting the police who will be using these programmes and so police treat the programmes with mistrust. “It is important to recognise that stress is an individual problem which makes it difficult to have a simplistic prevention programme” he said.
Mr Rogers feels it is vert important to increase police morale and that this can be done by involving police in the decision making process especially in relation to determining methods of stress management and programmes.
Mr Peters has been with the University for the past 8 years, full time since 1980 but has resigned effective of October 13, 1986. Mr Peters now intends to devote his total energies to his full time practice but will continue his association with the University as he is a Standing Committee member on the Institute of Behavioural Science. Mr Peters stated that he has really enjoyed his attachment to the University as a tutor and would like to wish the University well in the future."

I've been tagged by Sue (giggirl)
www.flickr.com/photos/giggirl/3804995903/ I am quite a private person, so this isn't very easy for me, but here goes with 10 facts about me, which you may or may not find interesting lol ~
1. I studied French and Spanish at university but never passed my degree as I met my ex- husband while I was away studying and came home to marry him (big mistake lol!)
2. I was married for 12 years before I met my present partner Stephen, who is my best friend and soulmate, and I wish I had met him 20 years ago...
3. I have worked in the same place for 20 years and although my job is far from uplifting it pays pretty well.
4. Following on from above, it's a shiftworking job, which I don't like, particularly nightshifts, and I feel I have prematurely aged because of it (well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it lol!)
5. I'm very partial to a glass of chilled white wine, particularly Sauvignon Blanc and Prosecco.
6. I have struggled with my weight all my life, have done virtually every diet on the planet, and must have lost and gained at least double my body weight over the years...at least it feels like it!
7. I adore cats, particularly fluffy longhaired ones.
8. I love photography (obviously!) It's the best hobby I have ever taken up, and I am so glad I joined the Flickr community as it has opened up a whole new world to me and I have made the most wonderful friends.
9. I have an irrational terror of spiders although I could never kill one. Lakeland's spider catcher is the best invention ever (yes, better even than the wheel...)
10. Although I work in an airport, I am scared of flying.
Well, there you go...I'm pretty boring really. I am tagging the following ~ alone68, Honestman28, Ian Peacock, robbber1/Tony, Pamela McFarlane, Photo Dave 2008, travlinman43, Psychedelic Surfer, mccraylori and Daz Moston/swan man...
So sad that it comes to this, such distress caused to poorly people having to wait hours in an ambulance whilst our comms unit calls out for any vehicle free to cover other jobs!
No wonder some of our staff have left and others considering it.. 🤔 😒
But so as not to upset you too much next picture is of our lovely Edie!! 😊

c1988 - red rattler city-bound (i.e., empty) at 4pm; the trains heading home from the city were correspondingly jam-packed like sardine tins, so in a way doing evening shift and starting work at 4.30pm was a type of luxury. This red rattler (a deep rusty government red on the outside) has the green internal livery of the late stages of their history, the NSWGR-stamped vinyl-like upholstery. The overhead luggage racks have been removed, and the sunshades are metal (rather than wooden). The lighting is still incandescant (rather than the later fluoro) - it was softer on the eyes. Air conditioning was of course done the traditional way (i.e., open the window). In winter you would close the window. It was always pleasantly surprising how quickly seventy people would heat up a carriage in the middle of winter just by sitting there for five minutes.
Note all the seats are still facing the rear, away from the travel direction; they were facing forwards as the train headed out of the city, but no-one has had a chance to swing them round after the train terminated and the driver changed ends and started back into the city. Evening shift was a bit lonely.

Sure seems like I've been getting more than my share of late night work lately. I need to send a box of pastry to the dispatchers I guess.
Left the dock at 0100, got to the seabuoy at 0530 and boarded straight back on another one. Got no kick from caffeine for some reason so I did a lot of bridge walking.
I was thinking about that air traffic controller that fell asleep last month and all the self-righteous critics who weighed in on the issue. Staying up all night is an unnatural act. Mankind has been sleeping at night for over 200,000 years. The 24 hour cycle is a recent invention. I noticed in the comments and letters to the editor that there was a lot more understanding of the issue from airline pilots and shift workers.

Yes. I was rudely awoken this morning in an unwarranted and over-excessive fashion. Then I couldn't get back to sleep afterwards and just lay in bed struggling in frustration for the three or four hours to follow, after having only three hours sleep to begin with.
So irritated, as I've been having headaches for the past three days due to sleep deprivation and the shiftwork hasn't been helping that, so I at least expected someone to be more than understanding. Obviously not.
