We left the hospital at about 7.45pm, we have been waiting 2.5hrs to get our patient into the department..
Some of the vehicles waiting there now will mean crews will not only be unable to respond to jobs but will be hours late off from their shift.
We could hear our comms unit calling out for any crews free to respond to outstanding serious calls. It is sad and frustrating for us to be in this situation. The government needs to invest in the NHS but they won't. It's the innocent once more who will continue to suffer.. 😪

This is how my day went. The temperature was in the teens (Fahrenheit), and it was snowing heavily, with 10 inches of new snow (on top of a skating rink thick layer of ice), multiple MVA's, rollovers and slide offs, numerous cars pushed through intersections, out of side streets, and out of ditches, an incredible number of falls (including ourselves), a dislocated shoulder, a cardiac arrest - CPR in progress (we brought him back to life), a self inflicted gunshot wound, a teenager who was drinking (too much) because the folks were out of town and who happened to live way up in the hills where we had to walk in knee deep snow for a quarter mile and bring out an unimpressed significant other and then help put chains on an ambulance to get them unstuck, the "regular" calls, 4 hours of shoveling the station parking lot and sidewalks, some really good training, a quick but healthy (and very late) dinner, and about 2 hours sleep.
That was my 24 hour shift.
It's nearing 3 years since I've ended my shiftwork cycle, working from sundown to sunrise. I have absolutely no desire to return to such a phase as life has "shifted" to needing my efforts at daylight. Decaf doesn't defeat that flavor fix, all while preserving a healthy circadian rhythm.
The night shift , not for everyone , when the body is placed under different stresses and strains that it doesn't encounter during the day , the temptation to close your eyes when the outcome could have devastating consequences . But on the plus side there's not the hustle and bustle there is during the day , the endless queueing that's encountered wherever you go , so its a case of personal choice I opted for less hustle and bustle....

When I first started working for Oxford South Midland at Bicester I did normal shiftwork which meant that I would drive all three of the garages long distance routes. These comprised the X59 Oxford to Coventry via Banbury, the 131 Oxford to Bedford via Newport Pagnell and the 338 Oxford to Northampton via Brackley. On an unknown day during January 1983 I had worked the afternoon 338 and had the opportunity to photograph Northampton Transport 6 (UNH 6L) a Willowbrook bodied Daimler Fleetline SRL6-36.
Collab with Macca (http://www.flickr.com/photos/macay/) under the Westway in Ladbroke Grove
Pretty pleased with this one as we had no time to prepare or decide what we were going to do... just turned up with our bits and pieces and tried to make it work
Out on my evening shift on a Merc!! (Sigh!)
Nothing else left..
Got an Aussie with me again, progress now, they have gone from being part of a three person crew to being part of a two person crew but still with another paramedic (me).
In a couple of weeks they will be let loose with a non paramedic partner and then they will be in charge!! They all seem to be doing well so far!!
So first job done and waiting for next one!!

Anker Clock
The at the house attached board is informing about the clock
The Anker Clock is a great music box at the house of Helvetia Insurance (formerly Anchor Insurance) at Hoher Markt in the center of Vienna. The Anker Clock is one of the most outstanding works of Art Nouveau and is a popular tourist attraction.
History
The Anker Clock is a bridge-like connection between the two building parts of anchor court (Ankerhof). It was built on 22 August 1914. The "Uhrbrücke (clock bridge)" has a span of ten meters and a height of 7.5 meters. The clock itself has a diameter of four meters. It was built between the years 1911 and 1914 according to the plans of Art Nouveau painter Franz Matsch. It is a tribute to famous personalities of Viennese history. These figures are reproduced as copper and have a Roman numeral for the hour on the head, while the minute indicator also goes through a horizontal scale.
The movement itself was made by the k.u.k. Court and chamber clockmaker Franz Morawetz.
The characters and their music
In twelve hours, all the characters go once through the clock. They are from different eras and have their respective matching piece of music. By 12 clock noon parading all figures with musical accompaniment. Joseph Haydn's character is the last one here originally played as an imperial patriotic conclusion anthem, it was replaced in the Republic for political reasons by another Haydn melody.

Under the patronage of the Federal Monuments Office in mid-2005, a complete restoration. The clock has been declared a national monument and is now owned by the Helvetia Insurance Company. With the maintenance during the transition to summer time on 31 March 2013 was a problem. From mid-April until 24 May 2013 were the picture figures of the clock, which should all move at 12 clock, silent.

The Fall
Book :
Luke Stephenson
The English Rose
Stephenson Press
2019
'The English Rose is an iconic symbol of the British isles that evokes royalty, war and beautiful women - a potent combination. For this project I wanted to celebrate the beauty of the roses from which these connotations are born. To capture these wonderful blooms I worked with David Austin Roses, the most renowned grower of English roses. Over the course of two summers I set up a small studio at the headquarters of David Austin in Wolverhampton, using a bright blue background as a stark contrast to the array of colours you find in roses. I was assisted by senior rosarian Michael Marriott who selected the best examples of each variety of rose for me to photograph. My goal was simply to capture the diversity and beauty of this symbolic flower.'

Oh gosh. Today's FGR target is My Love Affair With Music. My love-affairs are perfectly represented by my iPod.
I love music. I took a ton of lessons and classes as a kid (piano, violin, viola, cello, stand up bass, choirs) because my parents either fostered the love or recognized it. Somehow now, I am left with an ear for pitch, for tunes, and for lyrics. I love singing! Last night I sang at karaoke again, because I've decided I want to share my love of music with others.
My iPod is filled with music of all stripes. Yes, part of that is because my kids and I share libraries, so I get what they listen to. But also, I appreciate music from most genres. I may not like the music, but I can appreciate it. I love that I can take my music with me and listen to it in the car (no earbuds, because I plug it into a broadcaster).
But I love my iPod for another reason, the other love-affair. This was a present from Jamie for Valentine's Day when I went to FEMA. My days were spent in the hurricane devastated Cameron and Washington parishes, miles from functioning services like radio towers. I had been burning CDs, but Jamie gave me this iPod to make my life better. I treasure the darn machine for that reason. It encapsulates the caring that she had for me. Has for me. I love it because I love her.

The archway to the left of the London Transport bus and immediately to the right of the red telephone box (white facade) was the entrance to Richmond Terrace Mews, a narrow dark and dank 'street' located on the east footway of Whitehall/Parliament Street, virtually opposite Downing Street and the Cenotaph Memorial.
In 1902 the Metropolitan Police opened Cannon Row Police Station (Alpha Delta) and was the Headquarters of the 'A' or Whitehall' Division. The station was approximately 300 metres from Richmond Terrace Mews.
At 6am, 2pm and 10pm each day (365 days a year) all the patrol and protection post police constables attached to Cannon Row would report to the Section Sergeant waiting in Richmond Terrace Mews who would check any reports they may have after their eight hour tour of duty and that all officers had returned safely (no radios until the 1970's).
At the stroke of 'Big Ben' (not a second before) at 6am, 2pm and 10pm all officers would line up and march (yes, march!) back to the Station.
To my knowledge this 'ritual' lasted through the 1960's and into the early 1970's at Cannon Row Police Station (AD).
See picture below for the current building that replaced Richmond Terrace Mews.

So. Life has been busy. (If you want to keep up with me, I'm pretty heavy on Instagram at the moment.)
Had a picnic down in Richmond Park today, making the best of the weather. Shiftwork does have its conveniences sometimes, like being able to go out for a picnic in the sunshine when 90% of people are doing Monday to Friday routines..

Another one to add to my "Workmates over the Years" album, and a very special addition it is too.
Peter, or "Mr Baird" as we know him, is about to retire in a couple of weeks after 50 years service to SOLAS* on marine radio. * Safety of Life at Sea.
Peter lists his career below, but what he doesn't say is that for over fifty years he has been doing shiftwork, including 12 Hour Day and 12 Hour Night Shifts, worked Christmas Days, New Years Eves, missed family birthdays, get togethers etc - the life of a shift worker. Shift Work isn't for everyone.
A lot of Peter's career has also included sending messages to and from ships at sea around New Zealand and the Pacific (and probably further) on Morse Code and long distance short wave radio.
Peter probably has one of the biggest collections of Morse Keys in New Zealand of around 100 and counting! And ... this is his second collection as sadly a house fire wiped out his first collection, so he had to start again from scratch.
Well done and congratulations on your career Mr Baird, something to be very proud of.

Chevrolet Corvette 1977 Convertible.
The car is a 1977 Corvette that was purchased by Frank the owner in 1977 from Palmyra Motors, Palmyra, NY.
As some of you know that there were no convertibles built between 1975 to 1983. The car was a T-top car that was converted to a convertible with the experienced hands at The Fiberglass Body, Hawthorne, CA. It has a fiberglass front bumper and a 1981 fiberglass rear bumper. A 1979 Pace Car front spoiler. The convertible top parts are from 1968-1975 donor cars. All the emblems were removed and filled. All the body work was completed at The Fiberglass Body. The final bodywork and paint was done by the California Body Works, Hawthorne, CA. Black primer and block sanded. Epoxy black primer and block sanded. Final black paint and clear coated. Color sanded and buffed. I did most of the mechanical and all of the electrical work on the car.
