A bronze sculpture is by Irene Brown on the banks of the River Tyne at South Shield in North East England.
It was originally commissioned by South Tyneside Metropolitan Borough Council and represents a figure guiding ships safely into the river with one arm whilst raising her other arm in greeting.
The 'Spirit' is regarded as the protector – helping a ship through the seas safely to harbour.
The official description explains that she is the prow, the figurehead for South Shields' future and was completed as part of a project called 'Art on the Riverside'.
Taken in Battle Ground, Clark Co., WA, USA

I haven't identified this shield bug yet, but I just love these strange little creatures. I saw several on holiday in Dorset recently.
So at last I can reveal the shield generator! However I have a confession: It's only half a shield generator. And at that, the two rings I have built are only finished on one side. It will take many more Bricklink orders to complete. I added some flames to suggest the empire at in the middle of destroying it! I hope you enjoy what I've done so far. I'll be displaying it at a show in Ireland next weekend.

The Herd Groyne lighthouse at the mouth of the River Tyne.
In the background is Tynemouth; the setting for many scenes in the Vera TV series. If you believed what you saw on TV, you'd think Tynemouth was a hotbed of crime. Obviously, I couldn't possibly comment.

In other news, I bought myself a new camera! It's a DSLR, and is a huge step up from my previous one. Expect a better quality picture from me every time.

"Strobilanthes dyeriana (Persian shield) is a tropical plant native to Myanmar. It is grown for its dark green foliage with bright, metallic-purple stripes radiating outward from the central leaf vein. In proper conditions, it will also produce pale purple flowers. Persian Shield grows best outdoors in USDA zones 9 and 10, although it can survive in other zones as a houseplant given sufficient temperature, soil moisture and humidity. It has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit."
