sea shells gather on the seashore amongst the seaweed at Woody Point on the Redcliffe Peninsula, Queensland.
It's closest town is Denham, Shells beach is at the most westerly point of Australia.Apart from 1 of 2 only beaches to have shells instead of sand,you can walk for miles and miles,the depth of the water is only ankle deep.
The grotto was discovered in 1835 by James Newlove, who broke through into its roof while digging a duck-pond. It was illuminated by gas lamps and opened to the public in 1837, and has remained in private ownership ever since.
The age of the structure is uncertain and attempts to use radiocarbon dating to determine the age of the site have failed. Carbon deposits from Victorian lamps which were used to illuminate the grotto in the 1800s have entered the shells.
A great green turban gastropod shell, Turbo marmoratus. The outer layers have been stripped to show the nacre with carved filigree on the widest body whorl and Andamans carved just below the apex.

The Shell Grotto is an ornate subterranean passageway in Margate, Kent. Almost all the surface area of the walls and roof is covered in mosaics created entirely of seashells, totalling about 2,000 square feet (190 m2) of mosaic, or 4.6 million shells. It was discovered in 1835 but its age remains unknown. The grotto is a Grade I listed building and is open to the public.

Lots of poor people drop by my office trying to make a bit of money by selling all sorts of stuff like snacks and trivialities like this desk decor made from shells. According to the letter handed to me by the fellow who sold this to me, it was crafted by prison inmates as part of a livelihood program set up for them.
