Remember the Green Sheet in the Milwaukee Journal? It was the kids section of the paper with comics, Ask Andy, puzzles, etc. The green-colored section premiered on May 14, 1927 with a $1000 naming contest. It eventually merged with the Sentinel's Good Morning section and lost the familiar green color in 1994.
Antique serpentine dresser now has a fresh new look. Painted a creamy shade of white and finished with a decoupage motif using vintage sheet music.
Made from thrifted sheet - yay, I found one eventually!
Made slightly longer length a-line, from Sew What Skirts, and kept hem from sheet so super fast to do, zipper no problem at all! This one sits a bit farther down on the hips than the others, but I like that
Hurrah for me 3 new skirts to go on holiday with

11.12.09 67/365 I finally splurged on a serious luxury...sheets with a thread count higher than 250. Amazing. I'll never sleep on cheap sheets again.

These ski sheets were commonplace in many health care establishments but luckily I never had to put them to use!
We have a tiny little charity shop here in town, right at the intersection of where we cross onto Main Street. The ladies who run the shop LOVE Averill and always give him trucks so, of course it follows, that now we can't walk onto Main Street without Averill pointing and demanding "in there". And then we buy a truck or two for a quarter. Or are given one. Basically the same thing. But on Friday it occurred to me to check the sheet section for fun vintage (how had I not thought of this before?!?) Found some good stuff! Now I'm back onto the idea of making a quilt from my vintage sheet collection. Too bad I have 1,000 other projects going already.
If anyone wants to swap for a bit of either of these (although the blue / purple one is only a pillowcase), just let me know.
New one I found today! I added this one to my collection of vintage bed sheet fat quarters for the vintage bed sheet fat quarter swap! I can't wait to see what I get back!
Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft: Deutsche Schrift, drawn by a Mr. or Ms. “Friedling” in May 1935. One of three sheets. Berlin: Reichsbahndirektion (1935). Private collection (Lars Krüger, Berlin).
This is sheet 3, with 10 numerals, 12 punctuation marks, and one arrow. 93 cm wide × 55 cm high.
These numbers/letters were presumably made by the Deutsche Reichsbahn (the national German train organisation) in 1935, in oder to tell sign-makers what the lettering on signs for trains stations should look like. Several Berlin S-Bahn stations still have signage that includes lettering that might have been made with this design as a guide.
The lettering does not seem to be based on any single fonts of type produced by a typefoundry. But Element – designed by Max Bittrof and published by the Bauer typefoundry of Frankfurt am Main – may have acted as a loose source of inspiration, as this seems closer to Element than to any other typeface.

A drive through the Wylye Valley and up over White Sheet Hill is always a delight. It is especially lovely on a warm, spring afternoon.
This is an ancient land, as well as a stunningly beautiful one. White Sheet Hill is the site of a neolithic causeway camp and several barrows, as well as an Iron Age hill fort. The Roman road which runs along the hill was at one time the main route through the Selwood Forest.
