Marie Sharps habanero sauce

Taken by my late uncle Brian Candy, the date marked in his negative file is 1968.

The old rail bridge was demolished in the late 1960s after a section was destroyed in October 1960 when two barges collided in thick fog, claiming the lives of five sailors.

This young sharpie flushed some Horned Larks from the shore. After a twisting chase over the water, the unsuccessful hunter flew to shore and landed about six metres from where I was sitting - lucky me!

This one was a lifer for me. Similar in size and shape to the more common Pectoral Sandpiper, the rare Sharp-tailed Sandpiper can be distinguished by its rufous cap and distinctive white eye-line.The sharp-tailed sandpiper breeds in Siberia, but migrates south in the winter to Australia and New Zealand. Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge. Maui Hawaii.
