Make a "sharp" photo today any way you interpret it, either tack-sharp focus or a subject that is sharp itself.

We had this visitor to our garden today. He was happily munching (ah, shredding) something gray and gutty, just below our window, enthralling the cats. He stayed for a long time, until I frightened him, taking this photo. Thing is, he's not in my bird book. Any help from my flickr friends would be most appreciated. He was just a bit bigger than your largest mourning dove. We get marsh hawks, turkeys, crows and ravens and other bird feeder birds, but I've not seen one like this yet. Ideas? Many thanks!

Watching over the feeders at the Minnesota River Valley NWR Headquarters (about 1 mile east of the Mall of America).

Generally every winter I get a Coopers Hawk patrolling the yard. This winter it appears it is a Sharp-shinned hawk's territory.

That's it for the moment as far as military aviation is concerned. I will come back to it later, I have lots more to share.

This young sharpie flushed some Horned Larks from the shore. After a twisting chase over the water, the unsuccessful hunter flew to shore and landed about six metres from where I was sitting - lucky me!

This one was a lifer for me. Similar in size and shape to the more common Pectoral Sandpiper, the rare Sharp-tailed Sandpiper can be distinguished by its rufous cap and distinctive white eye-line.The sharp-tailed sandpiper breeds in Siberia, but migrates south in the winter to Australia and New Zealand.
