I had my fair share of air travel in the past couple years, especially short-haul flights within Europe. Most of the time, these flights were operated by discount airlines, where you don't have a booked seat, seats are allocated on a first come first served basis. These airlines make good money on selling priority boarding for the the uninformed.
I have long lengs. Very long legs. Therefore I always aim for seats next to the emergency exits as there's substantially more legroom than anywhere else on the plane. For long years, I fought very hard to get in front of the queue when they call you to the boarding gate, so I can grab one of those dozen seats.
But one day, to my utter horror, I arrived late and I was the last person to board the plane but to my surprise, half of those seats were empty. And next time, when I boarded deliberately at the end, there still were free seats. Wow!
So what's the conclusion? It doesn't make sense to queue. Stay put until the last moments, then board the plane. There's a fat chance that there'd be a nice, free emergency-exit seat. And if not? You have to sit in a normal seat but you still managed to avoid queuing for 20-odd minutes prior to boarding.
Yes, you guessed right, I was lucky again, I'm sitting with my legs stretched pretty far out. Feels great. Hello Budapest!

Each year, DDB Canada's offices showcases their culture of creativity by hosting Share DDB, a unique fundraising event where every staff member contributes an item to the silent auction. Items range from photography, paintings and handmade jewelry to rock-climbing lessons, sailing adventures, catered gourmet dinners and more. Anything that can be imagined (and made) can be submitted for staff, their significant others, clients, suppliers and invited guests to bid on.
The proceeds are split between two deserving charities selected by staff. Share DDB 2011 in Vancouver was held at Performance Works, and raised $18,000 for two very deserving charities, the James Lee Foundation and Covenant House.

The only time during the year that the Arkplein, a square not far from my home in Alkmaar, is beautiful to look at is those two weeks in spring when all the trees there bloom simultaneously. I have no idea what tree it is (undoubtedly fellow flickrates like wontolla or tovje will be quick to share there wisdom in these matters...) but those two weeks this desolate and hopeless square actually is a pleasure to walk by! The bee landed beside the ladybug, which departed shortly afterwards. Apparently the Ladybug did not want to share.
Eilidh has been eyeing this up since the weekend. We found a copy of this left out in the village to be found, read and either kept or put back out on it's travels. The only issue that it wasn't properly sealed so it got very soggy on the weekend. Brought it home to dry but it was past saving. So I bought another copy, which Alasdair has loved to have read to him. It's called 101 Bums.
