An accompanying photograph to the previous video of my Stuart Models shaping machine which I built from a kit of rough castings and bar stock to supplied drawings from Stuart Models. I finished the model in 2018 and installed it within the Victorian Line shaft work shop I'm building.
The line shafting is in a rough state of build in the video because it was in a state of development. The line shafting and belt tensioners being scratch built and designed to ensure good adhesion without risking over tensioning the tint rubberised belts thus minimising the risk of the belts coming adrift and ensuring the right tension throughout the speed ranges. Not exactly a scale reproduction to traditional line shafting but it works.
I was particularly pleased with the shaper because the tricky operation is dove tailing the ram to the base to give a perfect motion with no slop. I got it spot on along with the table.
I had a lot of enjoyment making this model. A reasonable quality lathe and milling machine are essential, but I believe ready machined kit of components are available from Stuart Models.

This old tobacco barn is on North Carolina Highway 711 between Lumberton and Pembroke in Robeson County, North Carolina. It's in pretty good shape and looks like it's probably used as a shed.
