It is interesting this isn't included in the wall description (though there is a video www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpkocJ5kbEY ):

Then-Mayor Dianne Feinstein directed the Arts Commission, which had commissioned the piece and paid Arneson half of the $37,000 fee, to reject it unless he agreed to change the pedestal.

In 2000, now-Sen. Feinstein told Chronicle staff writer Mike Weiss that because of the pain and polarization in the city after the Jonestown massacre, the assassinations and the White Night riots, "I did not feel it was appropriate public art at the time. And I felt and feel very strongly about Gina (Moscone) and the family and what they had gone through."

Arneson, who was known for his irreverence and comic bite and obviously wasn't going to cast a heroic bronze, refused to alter the piece and returned the fee. San Francisco art dealer Foster Goldstrom snapped up the sculpture for $50,000.

I saw this poster torn twice on Cortland in Bernal

www.flickr.com/photos/ari/6323097931/

before seeing this full version on a pole at Cortland and Moultrie

It quotes this 1999 Matier & Ross column

articles.sfgate.com/1999-11-22/news/17706197_1_yee-stops-...

Large image (though it just quotes the column)

www.flickr.com/photos/ari/6323631284/sizes/o/

There is no info identifying who is behind it

Around the time of the column, there was a draft Leland Yee for mayor group (you can see the filing

by searching for Yee at nf4.netfile.com/pub2/?aid=sfo They spent much less money than Run Ed Run)

www.sfexaminer.com/local/2011/08/run-yee-run-candidate-dr...

The allegations were also raised in a July SF Weekly cover story by Matt Smith (who is now writing for the Bay Citizien), but I haven't seen them brought up since then except in comments on SF mayor stories

www.sfweekly.com/2011-07-20/news/leland-yee-record-mayor-...

I'm a bit surprised it was posted in Bernal where I haven't seen much support for Yee, but I'm not sure what other neighborhoods it was put up in
