setup for my pink & blue pictures.

18x9.5" 265/35/18 square setup

Setup shot for Ashley Young. I had to do the same for all 4 footballers, but you get the general idea. Notes should explain everything.

As a general rule, I wouldn't advise you to let footballers kick balls around at full tilt when indoors. Things can get knocked over. I have seen it happen.

The setup for a 'practice photoshoot' at IT Mill - the plan is to photo the whole staff at some point, but the plan is progressing slowly. This time we tried a dark theme. And since it was a 'practice' session, we didn't bother to iron the backdrop. Mental note to self: always iron the backdrop ;-)

Strobist info:

Flash 3 was as pictured above for 'Jukka' -photos, and bounced of a white sheet of paper on the laptop screen for the 'Sami' -photos.

For the IT Mill Photogs group.

A familiar setup for subjects on a black glass/acrylic base, acrylic here as the amount of dust will indicate.

Main difference to my usual setup, is the addition of a white reflector above. This is a cheap white memo board which sometimes gets hung on the wall for scribbling notes on. Often described as a dry wipe board, which uses pens with water based inks that will just wipe off with a dry cloth.

This is just resting on top of a pair of tracing paper screens, through which the Neewer SF-01 mini slave flashes are fired. Both activated by Blazzeo SLT-4 radio triggers mounted on mini tripods. The flashes are shielded from the black backdrop which is approx 12inches/300mm behind by a couple of sheets of black card attached to the screens with clothes pegs.

Simple but effective :)

The finished image is shown below:

Setup primarily to test the mounting of a Pringles tube lamp on a tripod, using a flash cold shoe and a couple of rubber bands. More details shown in comment below.

Inside the tube is an 11watt spiral CFL lamp and the tube is also lined inside with black paper to give a smaller pool of light.

On the opposite side, a simple reflector made from an A4 size sheet of white card folded in half to a V shape so it would stand up.

The base here is a sheet of clear acrylic with the underside painted black to create a black mirror.

The table below and a board behind are also covered in black paper to complete the dark environment.

This is a minifigures scale version of our Lego setup. Hope you like it and thanks for 100 followers.

Lighting setup for Espresso picture in photostream

My "tri-flash" rig with 60" umbrella.

Often many people don't see lighting in photgraphy as they should, many think that is the act of throwing light to the subject, lighting should be thought as part of a concept tied with the plan of thinking in a way of emphasizing your subject and putting relevance to the features you want to give relevance, it is a plan not a dronish mechanic action where you blast light to the subject.

Here you have my beautiful friend Susy in a very simple setup:

Key: A 200ws monolight modified with an umbrella softbox.

Fill: Jumbo sized reflector (silver side used).

Background: a SB-800 in SU-4 mode.

The setup helps to cheer the mood up contrary to a low key setup, it helps to emphasize her eyes, and it makes things a lil bit dynamic without falling into flat lighting territory.

Lighting shouldn't be the same in every setup you do nor you should use the same lighting mindlessly with every subject, that's not a style :P... that's called being lazy ;)... Mr Ogalthorpe has an awesome Blog entry about it here: ogalthorpe.blogspot.com/2009/05/its-all-subjective-if-you... (NSFW) :)

Ok so I don't have any lights set up or anything. I just clamped this shower curtain to a beam in my basement. There isn't much room for lights here. But this is a great temp area to work. Setup shot for:
