Caught this Rufous with a multi-flash setup in my area. Migration is well underway, this one is out of range East a bit, but occasionally visits the area, first time to have one in my yard. Looks like he will stay the winter here. Selasphorus rufus

Shellcamp Lake Visit 01/14/2024
Canon 60D with Canon 18-135mm IS STM
I purchased this setup gently used for a great price and I find that it's become a go to "generic" kit for circumstances where I don't really have any agenda other than to shoot what I see.
I keep going back to Shellcamp Lake for the wildlife opportunities, but the landscapes can be quite nice.
I got out later than planned, but the timing worked out pretty well both in terms of landscape shots as well as some wildlife opportunities.
This shot is of the frozen lake with some lovely clouds overhead. The light was starting to get a bit harsh, but still manageable.
I like the mild reflections in the ice.
Hope you enjoy!

This is how it would have looked if any Lego minifigure was involved in making the picture. The contraption holding the teaspoon is supposed to be a moneybank. The cast iron ring is from a signalbox of the former Anhalter Bahnhof in Berlin, long before that became part of the museum (MVT resp. DTMB)

The main differences with the previous version are:
- higher stiffness of the camera support
- Improvement of the positioning system
- acquisition stack sequence automated with Arduino
- whole process controlled by PC
To simplify the realization and considering that it is intended for a studio-system I have chosen to control everything from PC and not locally

I've recently completed the classic setup
that Steve McCurry supposedly used
for his famous Afghan girl (Sharbat Gula) shot back in 1984
(National Geographic magazine cover - June 1985).

Set up shot for Analisha. You can see the key light but also behind her there is another flash illuminating the second circle's wall. Hidden behind the first wall is another strobe giving her rim.
This is one of the shots taken with that setup (not the best one since it doesn't show the rear background lit). This one by Andrew is.
This is the setup I used for shooting the macro shots of the bluebells and other flowers with a black velvet background. The umbrella diffuses the flash, the small mirror on the table reflects additional light up from below.
This is my setup for my Tomb Raider inspired picture as seen here.
For this shot I used my Canon Rebel SL1 set up on a tripod using my 40mm f/2.8 pancake lens, (btw this camera/lens combo is great for an everyday camera because it's small but it's still a proper dslr and it even has video too) and I used my handy-dandy remote shutter so its easier to focus on not setting my custom mining on fire instead of the shutter button. My setup for this specific shot involved a bunch of random dirt clumps that had moss on them that I might’ve took from my neighbor’s yard, and I used some random leaves because i couldn’t find enough dirt clumps but i still needed to make the end of the cave darker so it was easy to use leaves as coverage. I put all the crap that I used for the shot on a flipped over plastic bin lid because it is waterproof and easy to transport the whole setup somewhere else when needed. The waterproofiness of that bin lid comes in handy because my original idea was to have a flooded cave (as they usually are in Tomb Raider) so I just filled that thing up with water. I ended up using using a longer barbecue lighter rather than the one in the picture because it was easier to direct the flame without burning my thumb. The final shot for this pic is pretty much straight out of camera, albeit a bit of color balancing.
