A hand cranked cream separator. My grandparents had one on the farm. I can still remember them milking the cows, by hand, and bring 2 or 3 pails of fresh milk to the house and separating the cream. The cream was so thick that a spoon would stand up straight.
Once the milk and cream were separated we would have a glass of fresh warm milk and some cookies. Those were the days of fresh un-pasteurized and un-homogenized milk.

Havign considered making a large cyclone separator to catch the sawdust before it fills the hoover, I came across J P Thien's website, where he described plans for a far simpler dust separator. So thought I'd give it a go.
Mine comprises my 15 gallon fermenting bin, 2 2" guttering pipe connectors, 2 silicone reducers, some adhesive draught excluder strip and a load of offcuts. Fairly easy to make, although I'm still getting very fine dust through to the dyson. Needs a bit of work on the extraction port i think. Otherwise, works brilliantly, the barrel will collapse if the suction end is completely blocked, so I'm not getting leaks in the system.

Principle of work

Description
