Description of Serum Separation Tubes

Coated with ultrasonically spray-dried microscopic silica particles which activate blood clotting.

Contain an inert polymer gel that separates the serum from the blood clot during centrifugation, preventing contamination of the serum.

Gently mix the blood collection tube by inverting 5-6 times immediately to activate clotting after blood drawing.

How do you separate serum from SST tube?
When using a serum separator tube, collect the specimen using standard venipuncture technique. Gently invert the tube five times to mix the clot activator with the blood. Allow the tube to clot for 20-30 minutes in a vertical position. Centrifuge the tube for 10-15 minutes at about 1300-1800 xg. The centrifuge RPMs will differ depending on the centrifuge and rotor used. The gel barrier will develop, keeping the serum and clot apart.
Why are serum separator tubes used?
The Serum Separator tube is used when they want to test the serum of the blood. For tests like (NA, K, CL, CO2, LD, HDL) any type of chemistry. It is also used for tests like neonatal bilirubin or an AFP non maternal. There is special gel that separates blood cells from serum, as well as particles to cause blood to clot quickly. The blood sample may then be centrifuged, allowing the clear serum to be removed for testing.

It was at this point the table started in the direction of the current layout. The separator is to the left of the trap/ball view door, the coin vending bits are to the right and located in a separate door.
Iâve been kinda obsessed with brick separators lately, so I wanted to make a superhero for Miniland with that theme in mind. Weâre always careful about referencing actual superheroes from pop culture in Miniland so we donât get in licensing trouble, but I was thinking we should just make up our own. His name refers to the fact that Bricklink classifies the brick separator as a âhuman tool,â but it also fits with superhero names like The Human Torch.
He uses the giant separators on his arms as weapons and shields, fighting crime and separating the guilty from the innocent. He also has one on his head as a helmet/mask, and some smaller ones on his back that are throwing separators, kinda like batarangs. Iâm really happy with some of the dramatic action poses he can do.
Iâve had several people tell me he looks very anime inspired, like a character from My Hero Academia or Chainsaw Man, and thatâs probably where I was subconsciously taking influence from.

The separator was made by my husband from real horse shoes. The flowers are gumpaste as are the "tooled leather" pieces around the sides of the cake. I hand-cut them with an exacto knife to achieve the look.

Fearing Apache attacks, when Neil Erickson dug the well for the Faraway Ranch, he used the stones he removed and built "The Fort" between the well and the cabin. As the cabin expanded and grew into the Guest House the fort was incorporated into the building, This is just off the kitchen. The ranch was self-contained. self-sufficient and completely "off the grid" because there was no grid yet. The red machine in the middle of the fort is used to separate cream from milk from the cows on the ranch. You can also see an old butter churn under the shelves. The stones in the corner are Buffalo Soldier stones . They were rescued when the Garfield Memorial was rescued and made into the fireplace in the dining room. I'm relaying what I remember hearing. One of several dozens of asbestos shaking screen tables throughout the abandoned Vermont Asbestos Group (VAG) asbestos mill in northern Vermont.
Considered an integral part of asbestos production, essentially this equipment was used to recover asbestos fiber from crushed ore. After the dried, crushed, milled ore material was further reduced, it was sorted into basic long, medium, and short groupings and was processed over the inclined tables. The tables each contained screens of varying mesh sizes and rapidly vibrated or shook, causing asbestos fiber to rise above heavier bits of separated rock and migrate down the table.
At the lower end of the tilted, oscillating table, a vacuum hood would capture loose asbestos fiber via suction according to desired grades into storage bins for eventual packaging. The screened-out rock or "sand" was collected for further reduction and refinement cycles to extract any remaining fine asbestos fiber until its last cycle where it could no longer produce asbestos of commercial value and would be ultimately discarded as tailings outside of the mill.

Large steel, separators are a fairly common sight in rural America. I had never seen a small scale version of the idea before. It makes perfect sense there would be smaller machines for farmers with less land to plant in cereal crops.
There are some wonderful relics in Sedgwick County. Bits of agricultural history survive out here that I knew nothing about and I am loving that!

The last thrashing outfit of my father, George Howell of Albion. The big twenty-five horse-power straight flu Buffalo-Pitts engine and the Pride of Washington separator it sure could handle all the grain the two hoe-downs could put thru it.
George M. Howell homesteaded land approximately one mile northwest of Albion, Washington. Howell's farm consisted of 400 acres, which included the North Half of Section 8 (320 acres) and the North Half of the Southeast Quarter of Section 8 (80 acres), both located in Township 15 North, Range 44 West.
This photograph is quite unique in that the sack sewers are shown at work during a wheat threshing operation.
After wheat was cut and bundled, horse and wagons would travel the field gathering the bundles and moving them to a centralized location in the field where the threshing equipment would be placed for threshing operations. Bundles of wheat were deposited adjacent to the thresher, which were then pitched into the thresher. The thresher threshed the wheat bundles until the kernels separated from the head; consequently, threshers were often referred to as separators.
As the separated wheat kernels traveled out of the side or back of the thresher, straw and chaff came out a chute in the rear.
The thresher required a crew of six. The separator man served as a mechanic for the equipment and often was in charge of the threshing operation. The sack-jig, using burlap sacks, filled sacks with grain as it exited the grain spout. With the burlap sack filled, the sack-jig would pass the sack to one of two (sometimes three) sack sewers. The sack sewer would sew closed the top of the sack very quickly. Sack sewers were extremely skilled at their job and paid well. Skilled sewers could sew 1,000 sacks a day, about one sack every 30 seconds.
Full wheat sacks weighed approximately 140 pounds. It has been reported that the sack sewer would toss filled and sewn sacks 50 feet into a pile like they were weightless objects.
The thresher was stationary during threshing operations, and the straw and chaff that exited the back of the thresher would plug the machine if it was not regularly removed. The straw-buck, therefore, pitched the waste into a small wagon. The wagon, with a team of two horses, would then hauled it away from the machinery.
The Pride of Washington separator visible in this photograph was manufactured by the Hunt Threshing Company in Walla Walla, Walla Walla County, Washington. This separator was considered a high quality piece of equipment relative to competing products in the market (e.g., Advance, J. I. Case, Rumley).
The Hunt Threshing Factory was established in Walla Walla in 1888 by Gilbert Hunt and Christopher Ennis. In 1891, Hunt purchased a machine shop in Walla Walla owned and operated by Byron Jackson. The machine shop specialized in the manufacture of the Pride of Washington separator. Later, the machine shop would include belt work, iron work, and wind mills to its product and service offering. The company experienced rather severe financial difficulties in 1907 and was soon after forced to cease operations, resulting in the loss of approximately 75 jobs.

The plaque in my previous photograph can be seen here to the left of the door columns. While Pedersen's bicycle failed to catch on he made his fortune from earlier inventions in particular a cream-separator for use in the dairy trades.
"In England, Mikael Pedersen soon became a very wealthy man as the result of the successful sales of the cream separator. He rented the largest house in Dursley and was a very respected man in the town. Not only because he was well off, but also because he enjoyed being in the company of other people. His circle of friends didn't consist of just the upper class but included many of the town's working class. He formed a choir, took part in concerts in the town, established a music school and a cricket club for the young workers. He played at the town festivals and was very taken up with children's welfare. As a result of his rather fierce appearance; his tall build and full beard, the children were often frightened of him, but he bought them presents and held birthday parties for them, which helped a lot. Poverty was rife in England at this time, workers received a very low wage for a working day of 12 to 14 hours. Mikael Pedersen had negotiations with Lister to improve working conditions but often in vain. Mikael Pedersen, however, found other ways of helping the workers, he paid for their children's school fees and uniforms, and on Sundays he went shooting rabbits in the countryside around Dursley giving his booty to the local housewives. Many tales are told of Mikael Pedersen and his rather special lifestyle which attracted certain attention in England at that time. He was very outspoken, expressing his meaning on all sorts of subjects without reserve. He could be very harsh and hard but he had a fine sense and humour and enjoyed practical jokes which amused the English. He was in reality a warm-hearted man willing to help his fellow en and involved himself in human problems. Mikael Pedersen was a ladies man, he was charming and in his young days, quite a handsome fellow. He enjoyed a glass of beer and was often to be seen in the town's many pubs".

A new liquid hydrogen separator tank arrives at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The tank has been lifted and rotated by crane and lowered back onto the flatbed truck for transport to Launch Pad 39B. The new separator/storage tank will be added to the pad's existing hydrogen vent system to assure gaseous hydrogen is delivered downstream to the flare stack. The 60,000 gallon tank was built by INOXCVA, in Baytown, Texas, a subcontractor of Precision Mechanical Inc. in Cocoa Florida. The new tank will support all future launches from the pad.
