This little 1st year cub was definitely feeling "separation anxiety" He was obviously all alone, his mom nowhere to be seen or found. No telling what may have happened to her.
This cub was running up and down the tundra across the river from camp, desperately looking for his mother, sniffing the air, trying to find her scent.
Broke my heart. He did manage to find a dead salmon along the side of the river and hopefully in his short time on earth, he has learned skills he needs to survive the upcoming harsh winter he's about to face.
It was heartbreaking to watch him and not be able to help him. That is the only thing about nature that is hard to take. She can be so harsh and cruel at times.

There is some discussion about MacBook gaposis. I thought I'd document mine. The machine has performed perfectly for me for about ten days, so I'm reluctant to take my chances on repair/replacement, but it has noticable gaps in three places: The left and right edges of the keyboard platform, and the top of the screen bezel above the iSight. And I figure that if this is a manufacturing defect, it's better to get in on it early rather than late, before it worsens. So it's shipping back to get checked out.

About halfway through the show I got tired of lugging my camera around so I passed it off to Erin and let her handle the photographic chores. This shot is one of hers.

The Pied Kingfisher (Ceryle rudis) is a kingfisher in the near passerine bird family Cerylidae, the water kingfishers. It is the only member of the genus Ceryle.
It is common throughout sub-Saharan Africa and southern Asia from Turkey to India to China. It is resident, and most birds do not migrate, other than seasonal movements.
The Pied Kingfisher is estimated to be the world's third commonest kingfisher, and is a noisy bird, unmissable within its range.
It is mainly a specialist fish-eater, although it will take crustaceans and large aquatic insects. It usually hunts by hovering stationarily over the water and dives down bill first directly below to catch fish.
