The the most challenging part of a young koala's life is the separation phase. As the joey ventures further and further from his mother, one day she slips away into the forest never to return. The young one hangs around in the general area for a few days waiting for her return, and when she doesn't, the juvenile eventually moves along. Right now this one looks like he is chilling in this tree, but after 2 or 3 days of waiting he will start looking more and more forlorn.....

It doesn't look like much but it still freaks me out. See that crack between the floorboards and the door frame? Katrina's heavy winds caused the main part of the house to pull away from the addition.
