Between the earth and the water, there are old wooden stakes.

"Devils Garden is one of the premier locations in the Arches Park. Here you’ll find arches, spires, and a large concentration of narrow rock walls called “fins.” Fins form when rainwater erodes parallel fractures caused by the uplift of salt deposits below the surface. Fins eventually erode and give way to the formation of arches like Landscape Arch, the crown jewel of Devils Garden."

Nearing the end of the trip. We are past the rapids at this point and into the sediments deposited by the River in the high stand of Lake Mead. This is the crew mainly responsible for the success of the tule boat experiment: me, Stephanie Davenport who helped with the construction of Lotsaknots, Fiona Gormley who was our saftey kayaker on the trip, Tom's wife Hazel Clark who also helped with the construction, and Tom Martin, who had the brilliant idea to try this in the first place.
