The shrine of my room, were I drop bombs, my toilet! My hamper, amazingly, it's empty! My trash can, shower to the right, through the glass and a few drains. Oh and you can see one of my blue towels.
What starts small can quickly spread through the rural countryside, both difficult to manage and uncooperative to handle. The leaves fold upon touch and pods form full of seeds. The pink pom pom flower is attractive to look at but if you touch the prickles on the sides of the stems will protect the plant. What starts out small...........and ends up an enormous problem for both rural and urban countryside, for animals, native fauna and humans.

Description of Historic Place:
The Homer Street Arcade is a two storey plus lower level masonry commercial arcade building, with frontages on the south side of Water Street and the alley on the north side of West Cordova Street, in the historic district of Gastown. It terminates the vista to the north on Homer Street, from which it takes its name. The northern slope of the site towards the original waterfront allows a partial exposure of the lower level.
Heritage Value:
Gastown is the historic core of Vancouver, and is the city's earliest, most historic area of commercial buildings and warehouses. Built in 1912, the Homer Street Arcade is valued as an early shopping arcade building in Vancouver. This was not a common building type, and this was the only such arcade constructed in Gastown. The covered passage, with shops on both sides, served the bustling community with commercial and retail services. Its unique location allowed frontages on two sides, and joined by an internal walkway that connected Water, West Cordova and Homer Streets. The south facade fronts on an alley, but the irregular street grid allows a prominent exposure to the south, and this side was treated as the front facade and received the most elaborate architectural detailing. The facade facing Water Street was executed in a more industrial vernacular.
The Homer Street Arcade is valued for its architectural design, and its association with Stuart and White, the partnership of architects Bertram Dudley Stuart (1885-1977) and Howard E. White, who practiced briefly in Vancouver during the Edwardian boom era. As was common at the time, the structure was designed to accommodate additional storeys if expansion was required, but this never occurred due to the collapse of the local economy.
Its use as a retail arcade continued for many years. In the 1980s the Arcade was rehabilitated as 'Le Magasin,' and the building continues to serve its historic function. The sensitive rehabilitation retained original features of the internal passageway including its elaborate pressed tin ceilings.

Character-Defining Elements:
The character-defining elements of the Homer Street Arcade include:
- location, in close proximity to the waterfront of Burrard Inlet and the Canadian Pacific Railway yard
- siting on the property lines, with no setbacks
- low, linear two-storey plus lower level flat-roofed form, scale and massing, with central passage and asymmetrical entries
- different architectural vocabulary for the two main facades, that varies in colour and material
- masonry construction: yellow brick facade on Cordova Street; hard-fired red pressed brick facade on Water Street; and common red brick side walls
- irregular fenestration pattern: on Cordova Street, large rectangular storefront windows with transoms and original second floor wood-sash pivot windows with triple transoms; on Water Street, rectangular windows to lower level, with rectangular divided storefront windows above and triple assembly wood-sash casements with transoms on the upper floor
- stepped parapet above West Cordova Street entry
- heavy timber frame internal structure
- interior features, such as the original sections of pressed tin coffered ceiling along the passageway

Grade II* listed Modern Movement building, with balcony walkways and period internal features. It is a stunning example of European Modernist architecture
Pullman Court was considered unique when it was built in 1936 because of its scale, sensitive landscaping and warm brown, cream and pale blue colour scheme.
The swimming pool, extensive roof terraces, restaurant, doctor’s surgery and social club provided typical European Modernist facilities seldom seen in other buildings in London.
The interiors were equipped with wireless loud speaker and especially commissioned furniture designed by Frederick Gibberd himself.
Glasgow Cathedral, Glasgow, Scotland
Glasgow Cathedral is without a doubt the best medieval building in Scotland. It has an extraordinary unity, being built almost entirely between 1250 and 1280. Apart from a few minor details, only the tower and spire were still to come, and they were added in the 15th Century. In its Catholic days it hosted the shrine of St Kentigern (also known as St Mungo) the founder of Glasgow, and this was the dedication of the cathedral.
Its sense of massiveness is partly because it is set into a slope, and the east end is effectively on three levels, with a crypt and retrochoir below the choir at nave level, and the range of the east windows on the level above that. The breadth of the church is emphasised by the two-storey presbytery in the north-east corner, and the long, low Blacadder aisle sticking out on the south side. At the Reformation, the cathedral was able to host a number of dissenting congregations at the same time, using different parts of the building.
The Cathedral is, of course, not a cathedral at all any more, being under the stewardship of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland, which does not have Bishops. More properly, it is the High Kirk of Glasgow, but the current congregation is very sensitive to the history of the building, and have re-established an altar on the site of St Kentigern's shrine in the crypt. The great choir, almost as big as the nave, is used for services, and the nave is left pleasingly empty.
The most striking feature for anyone entering the cathedral for the first time is probably the vast range of glass of the second half of the 20th Century, especially in the choir, one of the biggest such collections in the British Isles. The cathedral has a deserved reputation for its musical tradition.

The success of that historic commission launched Olmsted into a career that would enrich the lives of generations of Americans through the design of magnificent public spaces. In Atlanta, his most visible legacy is the linear park system along Ponce de Leon Avenue. These parks form the backbone of the last suburb to be designed before his retirement."

"Deepdene Park is a 22-acre woodland, distinctly different than the other five parks in the linear park along Ponce de Leon Avenue. Deepdene's forested character is in contrast to the open, grassy landscape found in the other five parks. [Frederick] Olmsted's vision for Deepdene was to provide Atlanta's growing urban population with access to a Piedmont Forest. Deepdene provides a picturesque experience with its rugged land and scenic vistas while the other five parks offer a pastoral experience with gently rolling hills and open space.
Over the past century, the park's interior suffered greatly. Invasive, non-native plants grew rampantly on the forest floor, suppressing native saplings and perennial plants. Deepdene's stream channel suffered from excessive erosion as its watershed became increasingly urbanized. In particular, the construction of East Lake Drive at Ponce de Leon Avenue added fifteen feet of soil on top of a pipe through which storm-water flows.
Despite the damage, Deepdene has retained its unique quality; for the most part, the park remains in its natural state.A new trail system provides access to the park's rugged land and dense vegetation. The invasive, non-native plants have been removed, providing an opportunity for a new generation of native plants to grow; and a maintenance program will continue to keep the invasives suppressed. These changes offer a unique experience: access to a Piedmont Forest regaining its health. Over time, Deepdene Park will become the 'heart and lungs' of the linear park.
The picturesque aesthetic found in Deepdene Park reflects Olmsted's theory of park design. This aesthetic includes three key elements: the lush use of vegetation, a series of vista, and planned, enhanced access that brings the visitor into the experience.
Olmsted often created a picturesque experience where none existed. The unique qualities of the Ramble and the Ravine in New York's Central Park are manmade because little of Manhattan's primeval forest remained in 1852. By contrast, the steep, rocky landscape of Deepdene Park was not created, but preserved. It is a natural expression of Olmsted's picturesque vision. The forest has a canopy of tall trees that provides deep summer shade with small glades that host perennial plant species on the forest floor. With the exception of the pastoral Mead, Promenade, and West End, this picturesque park stands in contrast to the other five pastoral parks along Ponce de Leon Avenue. Deepdene's new path system follows Olmsted's vision by offering visitors improved access and scenic vistas throughout the park. Routes were carefully chosen to sensitively respond to the landscape and to provide walking access to visitors."

for some reason 55 f/1.2 has become my main lens - great combo with sensitive D3, as you can shoot at night without flash. the only pain in arse is precise focusing and very shallow depth of field, but these are what make the photo
