I wanted to try a low key black on black with a rim light. Just practicing...

Strobist Info:

430EX in a small shoot through umbrella 1/8 power for fill with 1/2 CTO gel, camera left.

Visico 600W Studio strobe at 15% power thru medium softbox several feet in front of me almost at 90 degrees to prevent blowing out the black backdrop (need a grid).

Snooted SB24 at 1/1 behind upper right.

Ok, my first real self portrait. Light, it was the light that got to me.

I was sitting early in the morning in the lodge in Curry Village in Yosemite National Park. Morning sunlight was streaming in through skylights made of the glass used to prevent peeping toms from spying you in the shower.

The light called to me to overcome my innate shyness of the camera.

Photo taken with the Canon eos 5D mark III with the 24-70mm f/2.8 II L len. With a little help from my friend Jamie I just wanted to try something different with my photography. I wanted to capture a self portrait and here is the result.

This was me before I had lunch today.

But I was thinking about lunch.

Hence the smile.

and this is me trying to be artistic.

(Each portrait of me was shot lighted with a different colored light, so while the color may look fake, it is pretty much what was there, with minor tweaks. Also, the colors get exaggerated/distorted with each iteration.)

One day at a time now, it's been a week since I started.
