playing around with this self portrait. didnt want to do anything conventional, so tried something a bit alternative. opinions welcomed.

I gathered hair samples from my family members, dog, and spike scales that my Iguana shed, and put them in little specimen jars. I was thinking about talismans and DNA, and Victorian lockets with little locks of hair. I did not want to do any kind of figurative piece, and was thinking about how my family have really shaped who I am today.
So I've got a job shooting some nude photographs for a lady. I have never sat in front of the camera naked before so I thought I'd do some homework and test out light etc in my studio. No Mr D you can't see the full body shots so don't even ask ;-)
Photo of my shadow taking a photo of the reflection of trees that are in front of me while taking the photo.
This photo was not manipulated in Photoshop, yet nothing in the picture is "real" except for the ripples on the water.
Then again, nothing in any photo is real - cameras just record the presence of light.

Self portrait in studio with speedlite flash set-up.
Trying something different with lighting in my home studio set-up. Very little post processing, which is what I was trying to do...........get an effect with the lighting and basically get the shot SOOC.

I can't seem to look into the camera lens and find the trigger at the same time, so my eyes are always looking away. Let's just say I'm being demure instead of inept.
(Ruth doesn't like this picture and says my nose isn't that large. I said it's an optical-protrusion because I was so close to the lens.)

This self portrait was taken with a Nikon D90, using a Nikon 18-55 VR lens. I used two flashes (at different angles) remotely triggered -- a Nikon SB-600 and a Nikon SB-28, both bounced off a wall to soften the flash.
Exposure information: f6.3, 1/200, ISO 250, 18mm focal length. I did some post production work to control the depth of field and enhance details using Photoshop CS3.
I experimented for an hour trying to capture a more serious shot before realizing I should just make use of the distorting power of an 18mm lens. Within a few minutes I had captured several more interesting and entertaining shots, including this one where I was able to center my eye in the frame to maximize the spherical distortion.

I left my camera and brolly boxes setup for some xmas photos, and when I went to retrieve the pictures from the SD Card, I discovered my daughter had taken the opportunity to take some pictures of herself. So I present, Kennedy, a self Portrait.

Just a normal boring self portrait to show my new hair cut and colour. Oh and the first photo I've ever warn my glasses in!! I'm officially blind now and wear them full time so might as well photograph myself with them on..

On our way from Stockholm,
Started to snow.

While i would never decorate my house quite like this myself, I'm always impressed by the people that go to this much trouble.
