Alexander Dennis presents the brand new 100-seat Enviro400XLB three-axle double decker, developed in close collaboration with Lothian Buses and chassis manufacturer Volvo. 42 of these high-capacity buses will enter service in Edinburgh from January onwards. They are manufactured in Falkirk, securing jobs and adding value to the Scottish economy directly and via the extensive local supply chain.

With Lothian’s services in the Scottish capital seeing consistent patronage growth, the operator collaborated with Alexander Dennis to develop the 13.4m Enviro400XLB. Offering 100 seats and able to carry up to 131 passengers in total, it delivers unrivalled capacity for busy routes in the capital, while its front and middle doors will speed-up dwell times at bus stops. It has been built to even higher standards than bus users in Edinburgh are familiar with, with comfortable high-backed seating, WiFi, USB charging, mood lighting and audio-visual stop announcements.

The 1989 Ward Vanguards would be the last Type A buses that JCPS purchased. Most of them were retired by 2006, but a select few would still be seen floating around the bus compound until 2008-09.

From the archives, photo was taken in 2006. Bus was in service at time of photography. Digitally scanned from film photo.

Belle Reve penitentiary, a beautiful dream in-name only: Not the only prison for metahuman criminals, but certainly the one with the most powerful prisoners. The white collars go to Stryker’s Island, the blue collars to Blackgate, the crazies to Arkham, and the super-powered to Belle-Reve.

A helicopter lands. Director Amanda Waller exits with George ‘Digger’ Harkness in tow. They head towards the main entrance door and make their way inside.

It’s raining.

Digger: So, Waller, me ole Sheila, of all the stick-throwin, bank-robbin’ Layabouts out there in the world, why’d ye come crawlin’ back to me, eh? Finally realize I’m the best there is at what I do?

Waller: What you do, Harkness, is exactly that. You throw sticks. Somehow though those sticks keep you alive. Either that or plain stupid luck.

Digger: Little of this, little of that.

Waller: But no. I came back to you because, and savor this moment, Boomerbutt, because I’ll never say this again, time and time again you’ve come through. Despite the fact you throw sticks at a man who runs faster than the speed of sound, you’ve proven yourself to be a reliable asset, and that’s what I need. Reliable.

Digger: Aw, ‘Manda. Y’makin’ me blush.

Waller: Don’t feel too proud, you’re not the only operative who’s getting star-billing. I’m putting my trust in them, and I’m putting my trust in you, Digger. That’s a rare occurrence. Do not let me down.

Digger, lighting up a cigarette: And what if I do eh?

Waller, taking it from him and putting it out: I’ll shoot you myself. Also there’s no smoking in this facility.

Digger: Very well. So who else is getting’ star treatment?

Waller escorts Digger through nearby door marked, appropriately, DIRECTOR WALLER. Inside is King Faraday and Floyd Lawton, discussing the mechanics of Faraday’s standard-issue sidearm that he’s had custom-plated with gold crowns. They’re both smoking.

Floyd: Hm. Hello, Digger.

Digger: Now ‘old on! How come they get to smoke?

Waller, offhandedly: They’ve earned the privilege.

Digger: And why haven’t I?

Floyd: Because you’re obnoxious about it.

Floyd stands up, and Digger approaches him.

Digger: Now Floyd ole boy, I may’ve been hit in the bean durin’ that whole Society barney, but I still remember we developed a bit o’ bad blood ‘tween us. That still the case?

Floyd: I can keep it civil if you can. This is business, so was that. Business where I got to shoot Merlyn four times. It’s behind us. I think we can agree on that.

Digger: Aye mate, that we can.

They shake hands.

Waller, kind of snidely: Good, now that you’re friends, let me lay out the law here. You two, along with a select few others, are, god help me, going to lead this new Squad. I’ve chosen you two because, in Floyd’s case, he has an excellent track record, and has proven capable in the field time and time again. I’ve chosen you, Digger, because I’m out of options. I need operatives I can trust. Katana’s defected, and gone to run with some new team Batman’s stitched together. Flag is otherwise occupied, Croc was never in the running, and Enchantress is right where I’m leaving her.

Digger: I thought Enchantress was sucked into some sorta hell dimension and died.

Waller: You’re half right, but also half not. She’s not our concern right now.

Floyd: I almost hate to ask this, but what about Quinn.

Waller: I’ll admit, her I considered, but she’s proven hard to track down. Now, what I need this Squad to rely on, is secrecy. More so than ever, we are off the books. In fact, most of the upper-branches of our own government don’t know we’re operational. Our entire existence is on a need-to-know basis, and that’s how it’s going to stay.

*she picks up a remote, hits a button, and the nearby wall slides up to reveal a window overlooking a wide hangar. A seemingly-unconscious T. Rex lays strapped to a giant gurney. Four figures walk away from the Rex and towards a stairwell leading up to the control room Waller and co. are in*

Waller: As far as the world is concerned, those four people coming up the stairs to meet us, for all intents and purposes ARE the Suicide Squad.

The four enter. It is of course, Colonel Rick Flag, followed by Doctors Karin Grace, Jess Bright and Hugh Evans. There is polite acknowledgement all around. Flag shakes Faraday’s hand, and nods to Floyd. He doesn’t look at Digger. Digger whistles softly in Karin’s direction.

Digger: Hel-lo, Doc.

Karin shoots him a dirty look.

Flag: Aman- ahem. Director Waller. When you have the time, I want to have a word with you about the way this operation is being planned and run. It seems to me like there’s a lot of dead weight, and most of what my team and I do are unnecessa-

Waller: Flag, not now. You know your duty, you know your assignments, and you know how I operate. This isn’t up for debate. *She turns to Digger and Floyd* Flag and company here are, essentially, a diversion. A tactic to throw attention off of your operations. Task Force X here, handles what the government deems ‘extranormal threats’ when there’s no heroes around to take care of it themselves. They’ll go around, guns-a-blazing and slaying monsters, soaking up the press attention. To the outside world they are The Suicide Squad, and you don’t exist. Every mission you undertake, they’ll be there to put on a show above you.

Digger: So they’re the fireworks at a picnic and we’re –

Floyd, extinguishing his fourteenth smoke of the day: Ants making away with crumbs.

Waller: If that’s how you want to look at it, yes. Colonel, you and your team are dismissed.

Flag salutes, and leads Task Force X out of the room and down the stairs.

Digger: Balls o’ brass, that one.

Floyd: He’s cheerful these days, ain’t he.

Waller: I think he’s slowly starting to realize his entire career has been one long stage production. Now you two, there’s empty bunks in the guards’ quarters. Murph downstairs will be happy to show you the way. If you’ll excuse me, I have another operative to check up on.

I'm currently going through my mire of 10,000 photos sorting out a select few for my first prints! Forced to go back into my RAW files to redevelop the photos for printing, it has actually been really fun, with a couple of unexpected positive results!

Amongst the mire, and the aforementioned positivity was this gem, sort of lucky really, if I had taken more note of this photo at the time I may not have been so inclined to go out the next day to attempt to grab a competition winning shot. Of all my air show photos the comp winner included, I think this is my personal favorite.

Jessica Esquibel (left) and Candace Gonzales senior cheerleaders at West Las Vegas High School have been selected to be part of the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) coaching staff. The two cheerleaders will travel around the southwest teaching and instructing cheerleading squads from elementary, middle and high schools on routines in the areas of cheer, stunts and dance.

Gonzales and Esquibel were asked to try out and interview for the squad after attending a UCA Summer Cheerleading Camp at UNM last summer. UCA is considered arguably the best cheerleading instructional organization in the country. The two Lady Dons competed with cheerleaders against girls from Texas and New Mexico from both the high school and colligate level, they were judged on talent, poise, charisma and leadership skills. Only a select few make the squad annually and Candace and Jessica are the first girls from Las Vegas to ever get selected.

The competition potential of Aston Martin's new DB4 had been recognised from the outset, and the factory lost no time in developing a lightweight version suitable for racing, the resulting DB4GT debuting at the 1959 London Motor Show. The model had already been proven in competition earlier that year when the prototype ('DP/199') driven by Stirling Moss won its first race at Silverstone. Extensive modifications to the standard car took 5" (127mm) out of the wheelbase, and replaced the rear seats with a luggage platform on all but a small number of cars. Together with lighter, 18-gauge bodywork, these changes reduced the car's weight by around 200lb (91kg).

The GT used a tuned engine which, equipped with a twin-plug cylinder head and triple Weber 45DCOE carburettors, produced a claimed 302bhp at 6,000rpm, a useful increase over the standard car's claimed 240bhp. Maximum speed, of course, depended on overall gearing, but 250km/h was achieved during testing with a 0-100km/h time of 6.2 seconds recorded. The DB4 was also one of the first cars to go from standstill to 160km/h and then brake to a dead stop on under 20 seconds, a tribute, in part, to its up-rated Girling brakes as used on Aston Martin's competition sports racers of the era.

While several customers liked the idea of the GT engine, not all were so keen on the DB4GT's Spartan, competition orientated and less roomy interior, preferring the civility of the standard model. To accommodate these select few clients, Aston Martin was happy to supply the DB4 with the GT engine. The first three such examples were completed in 1961 during production of the 'Series 3' DB4, followed by a further five in 'Series 4' and six in 'Series 5' plus one convertible, making 15 cars in total (source: AMOC Register).

This matching-numbers car, left-hand drive chassis 'DB4/886/L', is one of the five 'Series 4' saloons delivered with the twin-plug GT engine installed, three of which were left-hand drive, and is thus one of the rarest of all DB4 variants. The car was delivered new in 1962 via US importers J S Inskip first owner Henry Dingley Jr of Auburn, Maine, a motor sports enthusiast known to have raced Alfa Romeos and a Lotus XI. The DB4 was ordered with the desirable GT-type dashboard, overdrive gearbox, oil temperature gauge, brake servo, chrome wheels, and a Bray block heater as well as the GT engine. The Aston's immediate history thereafter is not known, but by January 1985 it was in the ownership of Thomas Clark of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. '886/L' next passed to S A Taylor in the USA and in 1992 was acquired by Philip Cowan of Guernsey, Channel Islands. Later that same year the car was sold to Mr Rolf Annecke of Neuenkirchen, Germany.

During the years of Mr Annecke's ownership the car was completely restored (body, mechanicals, engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, electrics, etc) including a bare metal re-spray in Deep Carriage Green (an original Aston Martin colour). The extensive engine overhaul and tune up was carried out by Roos Engineering of Safenwil, Switzerland, while the interior was completely refurbished using correct original materials: Connolly leather, Wilton carpeting, etc.

In 2014 Mr Annecke offered the DB4 for sale. At that time approximately 1,000 miles had been covered since the rebuild's completion in 2005, the odometer reading at time of sale being 48,000 miles. Some 500 miles previously the old original Dunlop wire wheels had been exchanged for new 16" Borrani-style wheels shod with new Dunlop racing tyres. Most aspects of the restoration are documented by bills and photographs on file.

In early 2014 Mr Annecke sold the DB4 to the consignor, a connoisseur marque enthusiast based in Belgium. Determined to return the Aston to concours-standard original specification, he commissioned Carrosserie Philip Vilain in Brussels to start work in the summer of 2014. Vilain's brief was to completely restore the coachwork and chrome, and so the body was stripped back to bare metal and repainted in its original black livery, the entire process being documented by numerous photographs on file.

The factory's Aston Martin Works division was approached in 2015 to carry out a thorough evaluation of '886/L'. They made several recommendations, resulting in further refurbishment that included installing a new radiator, steering wheel, front/rear windscreens, headlights, and accelerator pedal. At the same time the interior was correctly re-trimmed in red leather with Wilton woollen carpets and a correct headlining. Related invoices on file total over £78,000 (approximately €90,500). Aston Martin Works issued a Gold Certification book in September 2016, confirming '886/L' to be a fully matching-numbers car retaining its original GT engine. Additional paperwork includes a factory production record; a former bill of sale and registration document; a BMIHT Certificate; and the aforementioned restoration records. The car is UK registered and comes to the sale with EU duties paid.

To call the GT-engined DB4 a 'factory hotrod' may not be entirely appropriate, but there can be no denying that its unique combination of high performance and 'gentlemen's club' refinement, not to mention a decent sized boot, makes it particularly appealing. Rarer but in the same top league as many a more expensive motor car from Maranello it represents a very refined choice for the discerning collector. As such it is nevertheless the ideal companion for use on long-distance tours and rallies and would surely be a welcome participant at any prestigious concours d'élégance event.

Train of the Day

1/18/20

So, this'll be the last part, for a little while at least. Technically, it's an epilogue. Can it be an epilogue if its halfway through? I'll be taking a break from the series for a bit, so I can work on other things. I'll still upload the bios, as there's a ton of them I've yet to explore. So for now, here's the last part of the first half. As always, lemme know what you think :D

Death of a hero

Batman stirs. The last thing he remembers is Superman breaking free, and being hit square in the chest by his heat vision. He looks down, the movement needing extraordinary strength. He's bleeding. Bad. He will not survive this. This is the end. His legacy will continue. The resistance will continue. But he will not live to see it. He had planned for this, his team will know what to do next. But he will not be there to guide them. So, he does what he always does when facing a dire situation: He talks, recording a message to his team.

"This is Batman..no...Bruce Wayne. If you're hearing this, then you're either a member of my team, or-" He coughs, blood trickling from his mouth. "Or you're one of a select few with access to this frequency. I'm not going to survive this. I'm bleeding bad, and I feel my death is near"

He tries to stand, but finds he cannot. Great. He'll have to crawl. He heaves himself up, so that he may lean against the structure. He falls to the ground. He begins his crawl.

"To the resistance. I planned for this. You can still win. My death will not affect that. Maybe you'll struggle, find it hard to believe I'm gone. I am. You can't change the past. You must focus on what's important. Stopping-" He clears his throat, spitting blood "Supe...Clark. I used to..used to believe he could come back, that there was a good man in him. I'm beginning to think the only way to stop him...is to kill him." He sighs, taking a break. "You must understand that I never wanted this. I never wanted to kill him, but I fear there is little choice. There's plans, on the bat-computer, Access code 'God killer 350099'. That file will give you everything you need to know" He reaches the beaches edge, the water lapping hungrily at the sand. "You've all been instrumental in the resistances efforts. You are a great team, and I am proud to have served alongside each and every one of you. Goodbye."

He flips over, so that he is lying on his back. The sea laps at his feet, and he looks at the sky. This is it. His vision blurs, the clouds going out of focus. He pulls his cowl off, tossing it limply aside. If he's to be unmasked, he'd rather it be by his own hands. He slumps his head down, and lies in the sand. He struggles to keep his eyes open. He loses the struggle, his eyelids closing over his eyes. Their steely gaze will never be set upon anyone again. He breathes his last breath, and goes limp. The Batman is dead.

A few pix from the last few days. Back to the cafe this morning for a cuppa and chat. The cafe owner said that those of us there plus a select few others should meet up for a night out. Flattered to be included, and watch out for pix around 30th Sept!!!

As a nature lover here in Florida there are a lot of places I visit once or twice over the years and then there are a select few places I visit repeatedly. One of those repeated visit locations is the wonderful Alderman's Ford Preserve, the rustic park located downstream from the more developed Alderman's Ford County Park. From what I have seen this may be the most interesting stretch of the Alafia River, where gorgeous hydric hammock and hardwood forest line a waterway complete with several sets of small rapids. These small rapids are different every time I visit due to the change in water levels and the deadfall that sometimes make it into the river.

When the Matoran built the Boxor, a select few of the smart Bohrok decided to fight fire with fire.

This MOC was meant to be bigger, but I lacked several pieces for the limbs. As a result, the proportions came out cartoony, which I am ok with.

This is the underside of a rather large funnel web.

Note: I am slowly replacing all my photos with ones containing copyright signatures, starting with my most popular shots. I don't like to detract from the photo but I've had too many flicker friends have photos stolen. I know I am only talking to a select few here, but if you want to use my photo elsewhere, pleeeease contact me first!

A detailed shot of a hood ornament of a 1951 Chevrolet Fleetline. The paint had seen better days and the lighting on the hood reminded me of a plane flying through a storm. I know the pics are a little repetitive, but it was hard to select fewer pics T_T... She is Hyori :)

2042 in South East Asia:

Vietnam managed to defend their territory against the Lao Cambodian Front, thanks to the large influx of NATO resources and money. While the war has ended, the conflict is far from over: The aftermath of NATO, UFA and Oceanian arms left after the proxy war has thrown the region into ungovernable chaos. What most see as a humanitarian crisis, a select few see as an opportunity: The same people that sold the arms to break the country are the same people that are buying the countries pieces for scraps. Ironically, the same arms are now hired to protect the freshly acquired assets from the surrounding chaos.

While more Americans are starting to protest this behavior and domestic tensions begin to rise, NATO is mostly happy with the outcome – while exploitative, the investments introduce much needed order to a country in chaos. In some regions, the money and hired guns are the only thing preventing collapse. It’s ugly, but hey, that’s war.

War needs money. Does money need war?

This was originally just a test to mess around with SNOT, which I somehow never got into before. Quite fun! I like the balcony and door, but the rest could use some more details. I couldn’t really figure out how to turn this into a scene, so after having it sit on my desk for two months, I just went for it – it’s not quite how I pictured it in my head, but atleast it’s finished. I hope the blur covers up how bootleg the soldiers are, their equipment is wrong, and their kneepads are electrical tape lol.

fun facts:

Spiders are not insects (insects have three body parts and six legs whereby spiders have eight legs, either six or eight eyes and two body parts: the abdomen and the thorax).

Spiders have silk spinning glands (spinnerets) at the tip of their abdomen but not all spiders spin webs.

Spiders belong to the Arachnid family and there are more than 30,000 species of spiders.

Spiders are oviparous, which means their babies come from eggs.

Spider bites can be quite painful, and a select few can be fatal; all spiders have fangs, through which venom is ejected.

Fear of spiders is called 'Arachniphobia' and it is one of the most common fears among humans.

Male spiders identify themselves by a variety of complex courtship rituals to avoid being eaten alive by the females, the human species call this behavior 'dating'.

IN HISTORY:

In the Devonian period, about 386 million years ago, spider-like arachnids with silk-producing spigots appear but these creatures apparently lacked spinnerets.

True spiders have been found in Carboniferous rocks from 318 to 299 million years ago, and are very similar to the most primitive surviving order, the Mesothelae.

The main groups of modern spiders, Mygalomorphae and Araneomorphae, first appear in the Triassic period, before 200 million years ago.

While I was dressed today had some fun trying on some outfits for tomorrow. Wife likes the longer one. My sister has moved out to her own place so she is having a house warming dinner party for a select few and the theme is "Blues Night" so basically you have to come in dressed in blue!

It was cold on this lovely afternoon. Life-claiming cold. My hands were exposed for just over 3 minutes and it took nearly an hour for the burning cold to release from my joints…literally could not move fingers for quite some time.

Here is one of a select few images from that day. Can still feel the cold here.

What can be said about this locomotive? BCOL Dash 8-40CM 4601 trails second on CN M303 bound for Edmonton, seen here at Snider on the CN York Subdivision.

Delivered in 1990 to the British Columbia Railway, this General Electric C40-8M served its mountain masters out of North Vancouver, BC, hauling lumber, paper, and general merchandise products up and down the west coast between North Vancouver, Prince George, and Fort Nelson, BC. In the divestment of BC Rail by the provincial government in 2003, and the sale of the property and assets to CN in 2004, 4601-4626 moved homes and hauled CN trains for the remainder of the 2000's and 20teens. The dash 8's were spotted in different regions on the system like the prairies, the gulf states, and even out in the maritimes on occasion.

Unfortunately, time catches up to everything eventually. Within the last year, handfuls of BCOL and CN dash 8's of various shapes, sizes, and former owners have turned up in deadlines in Welland, Ontario and Markham, Illinois, pending sale or scrap. As ever-evolving emissions standards prove older power inviable or not worth expenditure for rebuilds, another common pedigree of diesel-electric is here today and gone tomorrow. In early 2021, 4601 and a select few of her sisters still put in their days and nights work plying the miles, sometimes in the lead, but mostly trailing newer power. The future of the CN cowls doesn't look bright either. A handful have been spotted in recent months occasionally leading large trains and living out what is likely their final months in service for the noodle road.

Hopefully I can spot more of these fatso's before the curtain closes on this species forever.

After weeks of debating on whether I should make the trip or not, I ventured to the High Peaks region of the Adirondacks in Mid January. Once there, my goal was simple, photograph a Canada Jay. This hardy bird primarily calls the Northern boreal forests home, but can be found in a select few locations within the lower 48. These locations are similar in makeup to those of the Northern forests, consisting primarily of conifers such as black or white spruce, firs and so on. These birds are quite infamous for their fearless nature, often being found scavenging from campsites and cabins. This behavior has even earned these birds the nickname "camp robbers". That all being said, no matter how much of a nuisance they may be to campers, there's no denying that the Canada Jay is a stunning bird.

You know those songs...yeah..those silly love songs...the old school music that just happens to pop up on the radio...when you are driving down the road? LaSalle street is one of Chicago’s most special avenues – it is one of only a select few where the street dead-ends into a building, providing a long-distance view of the whole facade. On the southern end of LaSalle, the Chicago Board of Trade and Ceres at its top watch the length of the street. This is the street where Batman and Gordon flip the Joker’s semi end over end.

This street is particularly blessed with classical architecture and with a few stand-out buildings here and there. The Rookery is one such treasure – and will undoubtedly be the subject of a future post here on tWp, as with the CBOT. This image was taken right in front of City Hall. LaSalle is a particularly famous presence here in the midwest. Without consulting wikipedia, google, etc – who knows something about LaSalle?

Man what happened to my music?!?!

I find myself asking that question CONSTANTLY. What happened to the feel good music that used to saturate the airwaves? You used to be able to get great ALBUMS now just 2 or 3 good songs. What happened to the type of music where no matter where you were, you just stopped in your tracks and had to dance or at least pay attention to the words? Now it sounds like the artists don't even pay attention to what they're saying.

This crap they are making now wouldn't even pass for reference tracks back then. You had to actually be saying something to be considered an ARTIST. I'm a hip hop head, so I listen to MY golden era of hip hop, basically anything from the 90s.

There's only a select few that I can really get down with now days. Most of what's coming out now is the same subject matter that I never could relate to. I've never killed anyone, I don't club, and never slang crack, so I guess hip hop has grown apart from me..

Ah well.. Nothing lasts forever.

I guess I'll be going through old albums and continue to post youtube videos to my facebook of the "good ol' days"..

DANG I feel old..

Peering down a faded blacktop strip, narrow hastily marked pullouts define a line of fogged windows, wind-swept porches, and vinyl brick and mortar storefronts giving memory to days of yesterday.

Fresh oil stains follow a flatbed 73 Chev', worn and tired much like the wrinkled man in the seat. a clod of earth falls from the rust covered rocker as he dons a one finger wave and a nod from the brim of his creased DeKalb hat. Left foot heavy on the clutch, a glazed right indicator, and in a cloud of smoke he's gone.

Life passes by a little slower in Small Town USA. Main Street America, in the form of little communities speckled across fly-over states. Each place a testament to the power of togetherness, collaboration, and good company.

Thinking to yourself - Funny how a melody sounds like a memory - A neon red Beer on Tap sign flickers atop a corner bar. The rack of pool cues, aroma of pub fare, and familiar sound of Lynyrd Skynyrd dilute the senses. Desperate to get out for something, especially before we all go on lockdown, 73961 tnt 73965 pass through Manny Vic with 1q43 Crewe C.S. (L&Nwr Site)-Crewe C.S. (L&Nwr Site). Only a shitty quality moving hand held shot for reasons that follow below..

Another disastrous outing sees me at Manny Vic this time. To start off, my connecting trains had been cancelled, meaning I missed the 70 on the bins and the first run of the 73s through the station, secondly was a major telling off by station staff, then a 60 on the biomass came early, when I was on the phone, subsequently making me miss it, and to top it all off my connecting train back to Wigan was terminated at Manny Vic, leaving me stranded and unable to get home, resulting in me having to head back to Burnley and stay at my dads overnight, where I'd then miss college the next day.

I'll also be making a formal complaint about the conduct of the station staff at Manny Vic. I was told by one member of staff to remove my tripod NOW and when I refused and politely said "can you wait two minutes please while I just take a photo" he replied "what dont you f***ing understand about that?? Take it down now!!" To which he then got his supervisor, who came running out on the platform, screaming at me to take it down threatening me to be removed. Bearing in mind I had been there an hour already, photographing from the tripod without any issues from other staff or the BTP, who knew about my presence.

Network Rail states its permitted to photograph and use tripods on stations, but is to be avoided where possible, stating that if you do use one, ensure you're not obstructing anything, not crossing the yellow lines and provided the station isn't heaving with people for obvious reasons, none of which were present in this situation. The platform had one passenger on, there were no trains due and I was a good 7 or 8 feet from the platform edge.

It's the select few people like this that have to ruin it for everyone and there's especially no need to be so unprofessional about it. A simple calm word with me or just supervising me while i took the photo would suffice.

I think this was one of the most surreal experiences of my life. We were driving down the main highway in southern Iceland and when we saw we could pull into this field we took the opportunity. We parked and marveled at the horses from afar (while also frantically getting camera gear out). As we were about to venture out into the field, the owners (I'm assuming) were driving out down their driveway. We froze. But they just drove by and didn't say anything. We made our way towards the horses one by one, taking care not to spook them. And then there we were: hanging out with Icelandic ponies on a gorgeous day filled with big beautiful clouds. Most of them were friendly; there were definitely a select few who were more interested in us than the older horses.

It all just seems too good to have been real. But it happened and I am so grateful to have experienced that.

Of course i spend a lot of time uploading images I've bought and rarely some of my own so I thought I'd dig into the scans of my own pictures and found this one from Anderston Cross Bus Station back when Kelvin had AEC Routemasters. Mostly they were blue but a select few carried other liveries including this one in KCB red and cream and a very smart livery it was too. Former RM1149 (149CLT) had lost it's registration by this time and is feeling the heat back in 1989/90 when i took this. Happily it survives I believe in Holland or somewhere in Europe and after Kelvin it spent a few years with Routemaster Bournemouth as YVS290.

The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is a Fairmont Hotel on the eastern shore of Lake Louise, near Banff, Alberta. The original Chateau was gradually built up at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century by the Canadian Pacific Railway and was thus "kin" to its predecessors, the Banff Springs Hotel, and the Château Frontenac. [...].

From the start, the goal was to exploit the stunning natural beauty of the emerald-green lake and of Victoria glacier which rose above it. There were many hiking and canoeing itineraries for nature lovers. Eventually, all the natural areas around the hotel were incorporated into the Banff National Park. This park has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Originally built to function only in summer, the hotel was winterized in 1982 and now offers all of the regular ski resort fare during the winter months. In addition to the usual skiing, ice skating and snowboarding, there are sleigh rides, ice sculpture contests and snowshoe excursions.

The hotel is also a popular place for special events including hundreds of weddings throughout the year. [...].

Only a couple of Arran's fleet of 7 PS's have spent their entire working life on the Island. 20526 one of the select few seen heading through the valleys as it heads south from Lochranza.

Big, even though it's a little on the grainy side. ISO 3200 will do that.

I had an awesome time last night hanging out with some of my favorite Flickr folks in the Tendernob. Since it was only a select few that made it into the actual 'Loin. (Geary bars will trap you for hours, I swear to god.) My pictures seemed to have turned out better than the ones from last time, so you can bet your butt they will be all over SF à gogo soon enough.

There were so many random funny little city moments yesterday that just made me sad to be in the 'burbs today. I think the highlight for me may have been Larry Johnson, but the insane dude at the Brown Jug was also pretty ridiculous. Crabhat was amazing too. And we only got yelled at like, what, three times if even?

And also? Everyone should go wish Nick a happy... what was it again? 38th birthday?

Pavilions like this with a name taken from the French language were a common feature of regular gardens in the eighteenth century. They were intended to enable the owner of the estate to rest and dine in the company of a select few and were located in the “wild” area of the park. In order to avoid the inhibiting presence of servants, such pavilions were usually fitted with mechanisms that enabled the tables to be raised and lowered.

The Hermitage pavilion in the Regular Park (the Catherine Park) at Tsarskoye Selo was originally designed by Mikhail Zemtsov. The laying of the foundations began in the spring of 1744 and was completed by autumn that same year. In 1749, however, the facades of the pavilion that was by that time built were reconstructed in accordance with a new project devised by Rastrelli. The unique signature of Empress Elizabeth’s chief architect is present in the exceptionally complex aspects that the building presents to the viewer when seen from close by.

Two years later, in keeping with Rastrelli’s concept, the master stucco-workers Giovanni Battista Giani and G.-F. Partier installed 68 large and small capitals on the columns of the Hermitage and 28 more on the pilasters. The architect also included sculpture in the external decoration of the pavilion: eight statues stood on the pedestals of the balustrade at the base of the octagonal dome, while four others crowned the roofs of the cabinets. The central dome was topped by a sculptural group depicting The Rape of Proserpine. The building was further adorned by sixteen statues placed between the groups of columns on the facades of the cabinets. These stood on pedestals embellished with rocailles and, judging by what can be seen on drawings and engravings, they were all different. Statues of Glory on large pediments supported a magnificent cartouche containing the Empress’s monogram.

In 1753 the stuccowork was covered in gilding and the facades were painted: the white columns and architraves, the golden mouldings and sculpture were strikingly set off by the blue-green “salady” colour of the walls. The roof, originally green, was painted white in 1755 and the statues and garlands adorning it glistened with gold. The decoration of the facades of the Hermitage was completed at the same time as its interior decoration, which was begun in 1748.

Placed on a terrace paved with black and white marble slabs, the pavilion was encircled by an elaborately shaped moat with two small bridges. The moat was bordered by a balustrade that was also decorated with statues and vases. The moat and the wild grove were intended to inspire a mood of melancholy solitude, put people in a contemplative frame of mind and inspire recollections. In the words of Christian Hirschfeld, an expert on the theory of park design, “the mysterious gloom and darkness of a spot, deep solitude and solemn silence, the magnificent features of nature will not fail to invest the mind with a certain feeling and oblige it to serious refelction.” The moat, however, was never filled with water, of which there was a constant shortage in Tsarskoye Selo (this fact is borne out by archive documents and archaeological research carried out in 2006) and in 1777 it was filled in on the orders of Catherine II, the new mistress of the residence.

The Hermitage pavilion was never reconstructed after the mid-eighteenth century and so its interior decoration has come down to us practically unaltered. The rectangular central hall is connected by four galleries leading diagonally from it to four “cabinets” with square floor-plans. The décor of the Hermitage’s main hall, created by Rastrelli, is particularly interesting. Thanks to the wide windows that also served as doors to the balconies, the hall is transfused with light. Between the windows Rastrelli placed mirrors in carved and gilded frames that merge with the surrounds of the painted dessus-de-portes. Originally the hall contained dining-tables with hoists. The purpose of the hall was indicated by the subject of Giuseppe Valeriani’s ceiling painting – Jupiter and Juno invite the celestials to a table laid and set with luxurious tableware. Valeriani took the subjects for the painted panels above the mirrors in the central hall from Ovid’s Metamorphoses: Bacchus and Ariadne, Apollo Pursuing Daphne, Bacchus Crowning Daphne with a Crown of Stars and The Rape of Europa.

The ceiling paintings in the galleries running out to the cabinets were painted by Antonio Peresinotti. Their subjects echoed the bas-reliefs on the facades of the Hermitage and depicted cupids with allegorical attributes of the seasons.
