With seemingly every new turn in Rwanda and Burundi you are greeted with yet another fabulous vista. These two small countries contain some of the most spectacular, and lush, scenery I have ever seen. Lake Ruhondo is dotted with little islands terraced from top to toe with tiny plots of farmland.

Notice how they're not in some super exclusive VIP section or backstage. They believe in their product, they believe in their company, they believe in the people that use it, and they sit with them as part of the community. Now that's just downright cool to see.
Poor Bogart. Even when he lies down to get some loving, some descends on him. . . this time able to tackle his legs and feet, not just his tail. . .
And somehow Curiosity doesn't get why Bogart isn't thrilled to share his mat with him after the play is done. Nothing aggressive at all on Bogart's part, but he does curl up into a little ball with his legs and tail tucked. . . makes sense to me!

This one, though seemingly ST spec, is actually an import, arriving in 2001. The car is reasonably local to me, I have spotted it many a time without being able to chase. I saw the next Blue Paseo as I got to a roundabout, I have previously spoken to the owners of that one, and decided to spin round to have a natter with them. I lost them, but as I joined another road this one went past. So long story short I spoke to the lovely couple who own it. They have had it 8 years, and bought it for £600 back in 2004. It has 143k on the clock and still going strong as a daily driver.
On a seemingly beautiful day in Northern West Virginia, a big tree fell across Route 857 in Monogalia County, near Cheat Lake.
When I pulled up, there was already a half mile of traffic or so, and we didn't know any easy alternate route so my friend and I left my mom to watch the car, and jumped out to see if there was anything interesting to see.
Apparently the big tree just sort of randomly fell down, and the white car came around the bend a bit fast and wasn't able to stop in time. No one was hurt, but the car had some fairly serious damage (not shown) and the road was blocked for about 30-45 minutes.
Finally, just as the road was being cleared, two state troopers came barreling up the hill. The one, noticing my friend and I taking pictures, asked "what are you boys doing, a school project or something?"

When Robert Cremean walked through the seemingly
endless corridors of the Vatican Museum in Rome, he was
struck not only by the vastness of the place but by the
number of sculptures it contains, many of which are
neutered by a fig leaf. To him, the sculptures in the museum
represented an enormous collection of mixed metaphors and
only a rare few met his definition of “transparency.” On the
fourth page of his Preparatory Study for VATICAN
CORRIDOR, A Non-Specific Autobiography he wrote:
The enclosure of one metaphor by another—one culture by
another—one time segment by another. “Paganism” is preserved
through forfeit of genitalia—neutered by a fig leaf. Miles of
historical artifacts enclosed within an historical artifact. And yet
there are a few presences that are not dead—not neutered. A few
glimpses— Man existing without metaphor. A few Transparencies.
Are these not worth the endless walk?
Within the concept “One man=all men,” VATICAN
CORRIDOR, A Non-Specific Autobiography was conceived as
an actual and metaphorical record of the journey through
the life of the artist and, by extension, a projection of the
possibilities we all share and may attain. Within both of the
facing walls are ten carved life-sized figures symbolically
conjoined by arches to form a “corridor of the self. ” As Robert
Cremean wrote:
Each arch represents three years and the Corridor of Self-Analysis
begins with my seventeenth year.
It was within the time span of the First Arch he declared
himself a sculptor.
Prior to acquiring the materials necessary for the actualizing
of the sculpture in wood, he spent two months creating
the detailed preparatory study for the entire work, a process
he had followed on only two prior occasions, one for
DONOR WITH CRUCIFIXION and the other, although more
suggestive than detailed, for HOMAGE TO PAUL APOSTLE.
From the first three pages of searching to the final pages of
resolution, the artist’s graphic description of the threedimensional
work provides us with the opportunity to read
the artist’s philosophical concepts for that specific work of
art and to understand how these concepts are interpreted
symbolically through the human figure. Since this is an
actual and a metaphorical autobiography, the Preparatory
Study for VATICAN CORRIDOR, A Non-Specific Autobiography
literarily addresses both.
Because each of the ten arches in the Preparatory Study
and in the completed sculpture spans a period of three years
in the artist’s life, the Tenth Arch was a projection five years
into the future and was at last updated twenty-two years
later in the writing in 1995, and with the publication by
Manuscript Press in 1996, of THE TENTH ARCH, the sculptural
Tenth Arch realized in the form of a book.
As the name implies, the sculpture is in the form of an
actual corridor. It measures eight feet tall, forty feet in length,
and with a width of ten feet. The facing walls of the corridor
are each formed by ten carved blocks of laminated sugar pine
planks for an overall measurement each of 8' x 24½" x 16".
The first figure of the Outer Wall, the “who,”is nearly fully
revealed in the round. But by the Tenth Arch, it has been transposed
into a negative, much like a waste-mold, only the egg
shape of the final transposition still in place. Block by block
and transposition after transposition, the three-dimensional
figure is displaced by a concavity as the wall that contained it
grows thicker and thicker. The reverse is true in each of the
corresponding figures and blocks of the Inner Wall. Each part
of the human figure is symbolic of a particular sense and/or
concept and with its transference the figure of the Inner Wall,
the “what,” becomes more complete.
Shown here is the final page of the manuscript which
lists the actual parts of the Anatomy of Transposition. It is
followed by the first four pages which serve both as an
explanation of the Preparatory Study and of the concept of
the entire sculpture. Each page of the original manuscript
measures 17" x 14".
Seemingly endless streams of street vendors selling knock-off designer handbags, religious artifacts, perfumes, and much more. There were literally thousands of vendors on streets throughout the city. I ended up purchasing a miniature tripod for my camera from a nice vendor setup near the Coliseum.

Time is seemingly passing by faster, and the fact that we are in the middle of May is unsettling. It seems like basketball season was just starting, and already Spring ball is starting up with football season a few months away. Regardless, I am excited to be shooting football practices as it signifies the beginning of camps, and later on the football season, which is one of my favorite sports to photograph. As a photographer, it is also interesting to watch the players develop from Spring practices to the end of the season. The camaraderie among football players (and athletes in general) is commendable.

Seemingly disregarding my presence while munching something in the grass. At first, I thought it was a muskrat because this was a big lake and I'm not accustomed to seeing beaver around such large bodies of water. It was far too large though to be a muskrat. It was alone and only a few feet from a retreat to the water.

Ideology and political issues are seemingly taking a backseat in this year's JNUSU elections with desperate organizations resorting to canards against individual candidates and indulging in open slander campaign. It is highly unfortunate that the ABVP, which has failed tll convincingly respond to any of the questions raised by us regarding the RSS ideology, the BJP-Ied Government's policies or the role of its own representatives in the JNUSU, is now trying to vitiate the atmosphere by targeting individuals and maligning them. They are trying to replace the issue-based political discourse which has been the tradition of the JNUSU elections with a degenerate mudslinging match wherein their policies based on communal and caste-based mobilization can succeed. We repose our faith upon the high level of democratic consciousness of the JNL. community who have always isolated such regressive trends. .
The ABVP has once again forced us to remind the student community that the former President of the ABVP JNU unit, their former Vice· President, former Vice-Presidential candidate in JNUSU elections, former representative to the GSCASH, along with some others had the university made 'out of bounds' for them following Proctorial enquiries in the last semester for their involvement in separate incidents of violence-starting from .
the intra-organizational gang war within the ABVP during last year's elections, the barbaric retaliation in the Barbaric Court incident, vandalizing the barbeque shop in KC to the beating up of child workers in the Ganga Dhaba. With stockpiles of skeletons in their cupboard, it is not only hypocritical of the ABVP to talk about lumpenism and 'culture', it is sheerly ridiculous. In its desperation the ABVP has even raked up the 1999 EUGBM issue where in fact six of their activists were expelled/rusticated from the university. Left activists were punished by the Administration during that time only for the sake of a balancing act on dubious grounds of 'making speeches and writing pamphlets.' .
The absolutely outrageous and fabricated allegations made against our SSS councillor candidate Abdus Salam in ABVP's pamphle' yesterday further reflects this desperation. We would advise the ABVP to refrain from such cheap tactics and concentrate on concrete polilica issues, if at all they are serious about these elections. We also share our apprehension with the student community regarding the tendency of nght reactionary organizations to indulge in extreme acts of provocation and violence whenever they are faced with electoral defeat. The heightened level of communal activities by the RSS-VHP-BJP from Ayodhya to Agra and form Asind to Malegaon in the recent months before the imminent assembl\' elections in UP, is a pointer to such a tendency. The ABVP better not adopt such tactics in JNU. .
The ABVP has also shown total disregard for repeated appeals by the GSCASH to refrain form raising issues pending inquiry before it While the student community hardly needs to be reminded about the track record of the ABVP on gender issues within JNU, it needs to be reiteratea that it is their patriarchal ideology which drives them to suggest dress-codes ('jeans ban' on girl students for example) or indulge in cultural policinG of women (ban on Valentine's Day celebrations) in India just like the Taliban in Afghanistan. While standing firmly opposed to sexual harassmem and gender oppression, we also oppose the effort to misuse allegations of harassment for narrow political purposes, since II trivialises the issue ot gender oppression. The Institution of GSCASH was built after an arduous struggle led by the JNUSU through the years 1997-1999 when the SFI-AISF was leading the Students' Union. The ABVP had absolutely no role to play In the struggle. Once this institution has become functional, the A8VP is trying to weaken it by deligitimizing GSCASH through selectively raising cases which suits its sectarian political interests. .
Unfortunately, the ABVP is being aided in this effort to deligitimize and sabotage the GSCASH by a so-called 'progressive' organization c'IIi d AISA. Under the garb of gender issues, the AISA is adopting similar tactics of selectively and opportunistically raising certain cases which ar& ~·ending enquiry before the GSCASH and carrying out misinformation campaigns against individual candidates. We would urge upon them to intr:..ospect about their own past and at least refrain from weakening an institution In the building of which they had hardly any real contribution apart from vacuous rhetoric. Why could not AISA launch a struggle for a body like the GSCASH when it had led the union between 1993 and 1995? 11 is only now that the institution has been created that AISA feels the need to sermonise us on 'principles of gender justice'. Does AISA's 'principles dictate that students be punished or jailed only on the basis of allegations even prior to an enquiry or does it automatically follow from thai' 'uncompromising gender justice' that all allegations made in the GSCASH are necessarily true? .
Reactionary and communal organizations like the ABVP and irresponsible and opportunistic organizations like AISA have one thing in common: their contempt for any democratic institution. Be it the GSCASH or JNUSU these organisations look upon these as mere tools to furthe, their sectarian interests. Such politics should be thoroughly exposed and isolated. .

Performing his seemingly daily routine on the edges of the steps that QE II and former Governors had climbed to officially land in HK, this regular visitor (I assumed that he was a regular because I seem to remember him fishing here last time I came to the pier to visit about two weeks ago) of the pier had his own way of remembering this pier; and wisely making the memory a good one.
Ten steps up, the main attraction was an open forum with the Secretary of Development and a cheering and jeering (depending on whose voice was in the mic regardless of the sensibility of the speakers) crowd of protesters, who were obviously upset at the government's decision to not preserve the pier, built in the early 1950s, at the present site.
Seemingly a million years ago (aka, only 18 months ago), when I was packing up my former life into boxes that were going into storage, and about the embark on my new life, I did some things that I thought my future self would appreciate.
Not knowing what was ahead of me, and knowing that I was going to have a harder time doing some things, I left myself a handful of encouraging post it notes to remind my struggling-future-self where I've come from, where I'm going, that I have a gut that I should listen to, and that I can - and deserve to be - happy.
One of these notes was on my 2018 calendar that I keep using, year after year, because I like seeing the quotes in my studio.
One of these notes was on the "...to me, you're perfect" Love Actually note that I framed from Niz, and that now resides in my basement as a reminder of the past and of my story.
And one, lives in the ziploc baggie of our old Christmas tree stand. It's a reminder that I can make new traditions with someone. Or continue old ones - even if it's only with myself.
And, most importantly - that it'll be worth it. Because it'll be real. And even though it'll be hard, the promise of better days, even if they require work and strength and grit, is better than fake days. Where one day, you wake up, and regret decades of your life, because you know it could have been oh so much better.
