In the City people seemingly walk where and when they want to walk and cars drive where and when they want to drive. Much of the time traffic signals and crosswalks are ignored like background decorations. To the casual observer it’s on the verge of disaster, but to the natives, it's a dance. You just have to know the moves and you'll be alright.

"PHOENIX, ARIZONA.- The Heard Museum presents today “John Hoover: Art and Life,” on view through June 15, 2003. One of the foremost Native sculptors, John Hoover eloquently depicts his Aleut heritage in his graceful forms. Nearly 75 works -- carved panels, free-standing bronzes and early paintings -- are featured in this traveling exhibition organized by the Anchorage Museum of History and Art. Featuring nearly 75 pieces by the prominent Alaskan artist John Hoover, Art and Life includes large and small carved panels, free standing bronzes, and some of Hoover’s earliest paintings. Hoover’s work as an Alaskan Native artist is unique because although he lived his early years in Cordova, Alaska, his work encompasses the many styles of other Native regions, both throughout Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. His Aleut heritage is eloquently portrayed in the sinuous sea forms and birds that inhabit much of his artwork. The cedar Hoover uses in his carvings is 1700 to 2000 years old and comes from the forests of western Washington. Cedar flourishes along the rainforest coast of the Pacific Northwest with other conifers. Marine-oriented peoples of the Northwest Coast who lived in or near the great evergreen forests have held the supernatural cedar in the highest esteem. They believe the cedar gave itself to them to help sustain them. They used the wood of the cedar trees to build houses and boats, while the bark was used to weave baskets, mats, clothing, curtains and spiritual objects. The range of subject matter found in Hoover’s sculptures is seemingly endless, but some recurring characters such as birds, mammals, shamans, human figures, Salmon Woman and Volcano Woman can be seen to play key roles. He is fond of certain animals and supernatural beings, and they are central to his imagery. John Hoover: Art and Life is a traveling exhibition organized by the Anchorage Museum of History and Art"

Seemingly out of the sand this posse arises, gathers and heads for the water.

I know, I know, everything about the original image said crop me, crop me.

Well, I tried, I copped it here, I cropped it there, I cropped it everywhere, but every time I did, the focus shifted from the dynamic of the posse moving across the beach, to the women themselves.

So I released it as I saw it and liked it in Version 1, but you know.

Who cares, here's the cropped version anyway, and maybe I am wrong and this is better - c'est la vie.

Although I haven't had the desire to be out with the camera lately, I surely miss your company, your vision and let's face it - that little bit of sanity in a world gone seemingly mad ..... it's time to come 'home again'.

Hope everyone is doing fine and looking forward to catching up! Thank you for being here ..

In the 1970's the Annenstraße in Graz was still one of the most important shopping streets of Austria, but with the years its importance declined. Meanwhile there are more and more vacant shops (27 in the spring 2018, one-third of all shops, with rising tendency). The complete redesign of the street carried out in the years 2012-2013 didn't stop this tendency, perhaps it even accelerated it. There's something very wrong about the Annenstraße - and the whole urban development of Graz.

A special thanks to all my Flickr friends and visitors, for taking the time to view and acknowledge my photography.

I would also, like to extend my thanks, to all those who place my images in their beautiful galleries, or use my images for their covers.

Additionally, I am truly humbled to receive so many thoughtful and generous testimonies. I cannot express how deeply touched and honoured I am, to find such caring and beautifully written words left on my behalf.

An idyllic place, seemingly in the middle of nowhere.

This building lies next to a hotel in this Hamlet on the shores of Ullswater. It is serviced by the Ullswater ferry four times a day, and you can also walk to Glenridding at the western end of the lake, or drive to Pooley Bridge at the other end.

Came across these seemingly abandoned stairway constructed with wood branches all twisted ad crossed. It didn't seem to lead anywhere specific and I assume it has been a long time since anyone attempted to walk that path. The steps were rudimentary and overgrown and the wood railings at the point of rot and instability. Truly forgotten I thought but crafted with such beauty.

Was a very wet and dark day so not much light at all I'm afraid but just had to capture this strange stairway.

.... seemingly with dark thoughts!

With seemingly endless patience & absolute focus, this guys remained motionless for several minutes here, before a lightning-fast strike delivered him a meal. Wonderful to watch.

Although seemingly an adult this bird is still a "teenager". There are still some brown juvenile feathers in the tail and under the wings. Other photos of this bird show some old feathers in the upperparts as well. This bird is also starting primary moult (inner primaries) which is rather unusual given the state of the plumage elsewhere but gulls don't read the handbooks and some of them are known to do this

This seemingly friendly Sea Lion, popped up to say hello. He/she was truly interested and/or inquisitive to inspect the likes of me with camera in hand, and 'my little dog too'.

Judging by her mates size, who at the time, was sunning on the dock..... it might be a pretty fair assessment to guess their individual weights at approx. 350-400 lbs!

Sea lions are pinnipeds characterized by external ear flaps, long foreflippers, the ability to walk on all fours, short, thick hair, and a big chest and belly. Together with the fur seals, they make up the family Otariidae, eared seals. The sea lions have six extant and one extinct species (the Japanese sea lion) in five genera. Their range extends from the subarctic to tropical waters of the global ocean in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, with the notable exception of the northern Atlantic Ocean.[1] They have an average lifespan of 20–30 years. A male California sea lion weighs on average about 300 kg (660 lb) and is about 2.4 m (8 ft) long, while the female sea lion weighs 100 kg (220 lb) and is 1.8 m (6 ft) long. The largest sea lion is Steller's sea lion, which can weigh 1,000 kg (2,200 lb) and grow to a length of 3.0 m (10 ft). Sea lions consume large quantities of food at a time and are known to eat about 5–8% of their body weight (about 6.8–15.9 kg (15–35 lb)) at a single feeding. Sea lions can move around 16 knots (30 km/h; 18 mph) in water and at their fastest they can reach a speed of about 30 knots (56 km/h; 35 mph). Three species, the Australian sea lion, the Galápagos sea lion and the New Zealand sea lion, are listed as endangered

So here it is - as I saw it then.

I don’t know if it was the face of the soldier seemingly pleading to be taking away from his mortal pains captured in this war dead memorial or just the light I captured it in but it is perhaps the most poignant memorial I have had the pleasure to witness. The statue honors the fallen during the first world war and symbolizes a temple guarded by a lion and lists the names of those that did not return from the battles listed on the sides of the monument.

Italy interestingly started out the start of the first world war in a three way partnership with Germany and the Hapsburgs Austrian-Hungarian Empire but seeing little benefit from this arrangement joined with France and England against its former partners. The long enmity with the Austrians along with the land annexed during those conflicts gave Italy a prize to fight for and a real chance for reclamation of its losses bringing all Italian speaking peoples under one flag.

This shot to me illustrates the main principal I work by when trying to capture the feeling of a new city and that is to walk a lot, though the main sights should be appreciated it is sometimes the sights off the beaten track that I find most interesting. My second guiding principal is my 80/20 rule, meaning that 80% of your best travel shots will come during 20% of the daylight hours It is not always possible for these hours to coincide with your travel but I take great pains to make sure I maximize the golden hours.

I took this on Oct 6th, 2018 with my D750 and Nikon 28-300mm f3.5-5.6 Lens at 72mm 1/100s f`11 ISO 100 processed in LR, PS +Lumenzia, Topaz , and DXO

Seemingly All The Gold Has Been In The Trees,

Hoping This Finds Every One, Having A Great Week ... Cindy

I am hearing the pine warblers singing more as the days are lengthening especially on warmer sunnier days. This image is from 2 springs ago. It is heartening to realize by the middle of next month the first waves of migrant warblers will begin in my area. It is just a few species at first but a welcome change from the seemingly long warblerless season. This warbler stays all year here in Georgia, the only one to commonly do so. It's been a warmer winter than most thus far, and just in the last few days I am seeing ornamental cherries bloom.

It really didn't help that he had no idea who of where this Boss was, let alone why he was supposed to kill him. But kill him he would, anything for the chance to remove the stifling helm that appeared to be bolted directly to his spine.

His hand tingled, the synthskin glove throbbing and almost alive, a previously inert surface lighting up. Stopping, he raised the hand, looking down, watching the hazy outline of a hologram appear. The target. The Boss.

In some rural areas old, seemingly abandoned cemeteries have recent and sometimes vaguely-marked (or just unmarked) graves. Their stones, when they have them, stand out in stark contrast to the faded and fallen stones of their grandparents.

The same is true for the decorations, including this angel in a bucket. It was dim and raining when I entered the cemetery, and I saw this statue from a distance. Until I was in position to take the photo, I thought it was an older angel. In this sort of older cemetery that would have been pretty rare.

But this was probably a gift from the living to the dead. A fairy-like angel with a lantern to watch over the departed. And a bucket of cement to stand up against the spring winds.

A common bird in any wetland area is the coot.

More famous perhaps as a reference to the follicly challenged than in it's own right. So often we overlook the common species in favour of the rare and exoticand the coot is no exception to this rule.

So in an attempt to redress the balance here is a lovely if slightly bedraggled little coot.

Bird description: Near endemic [in Southern Africa]. Common resident of arid savannah, semi-desert and Karoo scrub. Solitary or in pairs, usually perches conspicuously on a tree top or telephone pole, scanning the ground for prey. A versatile hunter that will run after prey on foot or pursue it relentlessly in flight; sometimes uses Honey Badgers or other mammals to flush prey.
