The Octan corporation was constantly seeking energy resources across the galaxy. One of its main tools in this search was the "Seeker" vessel. Its massive bows were filled with a variety of aerials and antennas, tuned to the signatures of different gases and energy signatures.

Further adventures with the Mecabricks' rendering engine. I've added a sun lamp to the HDR lighting and paid for a higher resolution. Some of the curved bricks went missing and some of the Technic panels were mis-aligned during the import process from LDD, which was a bit frustrating.

Good morning everyone. Just a single pic today of a grasshopper I rarely see, being an Admirable Grasshopper (Syrbula admirabilis), also known as a "Handsome Grasshopper". Either way, can't think of the last I saw one and like the title indicates, this male was doing a pretty good job of hiding in the reeds. I never would have seen it if it hadn't moved a bit when I got near it. Photographed at the reclaimed strip mine, which is a local haven for grasshoppers of all kinds that typically teems with them in late summer - early Fall.
Males and female Admirable Grasshoppers look very different from each other. The females are a bright, clear green and tan, and the males as seen above are brown or tan with blackish and pale yellow markings. Size wise the males are about 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) in length while the females are typically much larger at 2.25 inches (5.6 cm). Both gender have a very slanted face and long hind legs. Males are expert fliers, whereas females are weak fliers and prefer to hop.
Admirables range in the eastern and central United States, west to Arizona. Preferred habitat is dry, grassy, weedy areas, especially disturbed places.

CN5738 has been given the green light to speed up - and speed up it did. My 20 mile lead only gave me about a minute before the train was on me here at Parnell, home to another set of old US&S P5 signals. Increasingly rare to find, these tall signals are a must-shoot what with their relative isolation in the tiny community. Parnell is home to a mere handful of houses, a grain elevator, a boat repair service of some kind... and not much else. The signals are the real highlight, though. It's hard to beat that.

For me, 2018 is going to be the year that I prioritise photography a little more. My full time job is teaching but that doesn’t mean I have to push photography to the side which if I’m honest, I did so last year. It doesn’t have to be my second choice. I’m lucky enough to say that I have two passions in life and I want to give both as much attention as I can.
I also want to build more of a community on here. Part of what I love about sharing my work on here is hearing your thoughts. With that said, every comment that I receive on my photographs this year, I’m going to match it. So, if you comment on my work I will check out your profile and comment on YOUR work. I want to be an active part of this community and build it up to be one that is supportive and thoughtful. I hope you will too.
Last weekend I started this project about imitation- a woman walking around amongst dead natural objects, trying to imitate them or continue their lives, taking on it´s qualities, turning herself into a part of the natural scene. Where a tree has died, she would take a branch and stand strong beneath it´s white, fragile branches. Or in this case, lay down on the ground, imitating the forms around her. Can we spread life and energy in a dead or suffocating environment?

For what it's worth, these last two photos are of Ottawa's "old" city hall, now a federal government building. The striking structure was designed by world-famous architect, Moshe Safdie.

There are plenty of trees and shady, cool corners in the grounds at Fyvie Castle. And as there's no agricultural interference the mosses, ivy and lichen continue to flourish. There's healthy lichen on the tops of this wall!

Mystery solved! I've been trying to get to know my new home area, and on one of my numerous recce trips had passed this farmyard out at Newton of Ardtoe, and wondered why there was an ex RAF SEAKING search and rescue helicopter residing next to a cattle shed. In the absence of anyone around I was left wondering until today when a local, liberally spattered in cow sh!t came out of a nearby house with his wife, and I was able to ask him. Well Gordon told me it had been bought by a local fisherman who had a vision to convert it into a snack shack or an AirBnB. Ah yes, what a good idea....and then it transpired this was not just any local fisherman but one who lives 20 yards over my garden fence. Thankfully, I know there is no room near us to move a redundant ex RAF SEAKING search and rescue helicopter to, but said neighbour does not have the best reputation in these parts for maintaining the peace. Quite how it landed in the back o'beyond remains a mystery. These things are BIG!. But I'm discovering there are many colourful locals in these parts and strange things do happen.
You should never underestimate farmers and fishermen in these parts. Next to the helicopter the farmer is building his own SpaceX Mars rocket rival

I asked Amanda Richards at True Colors Makeup Artistry in Bethlehem, PA to "Please, make me beautiful!"
This is the result - makeup, hair costume, pose and photo - all Amanda's idea and work. I just let her do her creative magic over the hours it took to create this living image.
I remember feeling super feminine and also powerful - like I was endowed with superpowers. I've never been the same woman since.
So I suppose this is a not so subtle plug for Amanda. That's OK - everyone deserves to feel this way at least once in their lives.
