I'm always fascinated by Milkweed and the seedpods of the plant. Such a neat shape and texture, full of those tiny, hairy, compressed seeds.
Freesia laxa seedpod. The seeds are plump and red at first. After they fall from the pod they get like little raisins.
Collected all from one stem, over a couple weeks of Jan 2012. Without the tea bag they roll out of the pod and between the slats of the porch never to be retrieved! These are "blue" ones, with variable dark purple blotches at the base of 3, sometimes 4, tepals.
Packed for PBS BX on 21 Jan 2012
The flowers of the bluebell are at their best in late April and early May. When the flowers die, green seed pods are formed. By July these will be dry and brown and full of small black seeds. The seeds may take 5 years to develop into a mature flowering bulb.
Feb 17 048/366 - Closeup of seed pods and pollen on the surface of our pool. I think those are seed pods from the sycamore trees, they blew around all weekend and the pool skimmers were full of them. I really need to scoop out all the leaves on the bottom here, but not today :)
I started this a while ago, and finished today during a break from my project.
The seeds fly well, particularly in line with a fan
I'm not sure what kind of seedpod it is kapok?.......
Update. I have just found out it is the toxic Strophanthus divaricatus 羊角拗,
Soon these pods will dry, and reveal shiney black seeds. From seed, daylilies take about 2-3 years to bloom....well worth waiting for, as these have been hand-pollinated (by me) to develop new and exciting colors for our flower garden. Seedpods will be harvested in about 4-6 weeks...the pods become brittle, turn beige-brown and open to reveal the seeds.
Seed pod on a tree in town. The extreme bokeh of this shot makes it look like the thing is just floating in air. It's not. The stem is just obscured until it is way out of focus. Used in my blog posting “The Memes Shall Inherit the Earth.”
