(from our late June trip)
North side of Mono Lake,
Mono Co., California
Intrigued when we saw these pods on 3+ foot (1m) upright stems, it took me asking the right person at a CNPS event to get the ID. (Thanks, Dave.) While I was especially amazed by those swirls at the distal end of the pods, I have read a comment I like about the minute projections along the capsules being "nature's original velcro plant, the pods have stiff curved hairs that will cling to your clothing or fur which helps the plant disperse its seeds."--Thayne Tuason on Flickr
