Amazing pose from Mandi. I think this fits in perfectly with the seductive look we tried to achieve throughout the shoot. Don't crit the harsh light - we tried a few softer lighting methods and this just looked far better.
I took this image of my subject in a studio setting, with a Nikon D3000. For this photograph it was important to capture the sex appeal, as this was from the lingerie shoot, yet we are zoomed into only the subject face, and so I relied upon this to suggest what was happening in the image.
For this particular photograph, the only part of clothing that we see is the collar of the trench coat, which I have got my subject to hold up and grip tightly to show power and her feisty personality. I found that by getting my subject to bite her lip whilst doing this, made the image seem more seductive and intriguing. As well as this, I requested that my model raised one eyebrow, to gives the impression that there is a challenge within the image, and by looking directly at the camera, the challenge is to whomever is viewing the photograph. I gave my subject dark eye make-up, to make the eyes particularly bold and stand out, so that the focus seemed definite.
The composition of this image is landscape orientation, with the subject taking up the majority of the frame, positioned centrally. Here I still wanted to stick with the symmetry giving power, which I believe has remained well within the concept and shoot. I positioned the lighting from the left of the subject so that one side of her face was lit up and was the same side that the lip is being bitten so that this is better highlighted.
Finally, I decided to edit this image in to black and white so that the coat doesn't seem to have a particular colour and intrigues the viewer into seeing what the actual coat looks like. And the focus is then guided onto the face and expression as opposed to the brightness of the coat if it had been in colour. After doing this, I then used the sliders on Photoshop to adjust the brightness, contrast and sharpness, used the dodge tool to remove any shadows and finally the burn tool to darken areas, make the eyes bolder, and the same with sections of the models hair and clothing. If I were to improve upon this photograph, I would like to take more shots like this, looking at different angles and would also like to move the lighting so that it is positioned in front of the subject rather than to the left, so that I could experiment and see if this style in my work can evolve.
