Challis is one of my favorite models - I've shot with her several times over the years and she is such a sweetheart. My camera obviously loves her. These photos are from a small group shoot we did in Freak Alley in November. Thanks to our fried Ron for letting us use his cool car.

Maybe there's a little too much smoke in this one - that slight haze across her face, for instance. However, as it's my first experiment gelling flash I thought I'd share it anyway. I love the combination of the CTO on the key light and the blue in the smoke.
There's not a tonne of processing on it, as I find the 5D mkiii has issues with intense blues. I see it most often with twilight shots, where there's banding in the bright blues - in the RAW file itself. Any tweaks just reinforce it, hence the cautious approach. If other 5D mkiii users see this, or know of a firmware update for it, please do shout me!

2x Canon 600EX-RT - master on camera in Lasolite "Ezybox" at ~1/16, slave fired by built in RT in umbrella 45 degrees camera left, 2 feet above model, 3m back, gelled CTO, at 1/2 power. Backlight is from an LED strip (ungelled) just behind the model camera left, and a 220 lumen Lenser MT7 military flashlight gelled blue about 4m behind the model on the ground. There's a 1.2m silver reflector on a makeshift stand camera right, just off axis.

Just an "in between" snap, but it captured the mood...
This is from the great impromptu photo session with Kate when we visited Harriet's house in Oxford in 1974. It started with a casual remark over dinner when I mentioned that I liked how her loose top became rather revealing as she leant forward in conversation with Marie (having taken a snap of the nice view). She said that she would really like to have some glamorous photos of herself so after the meal, and a few more glasses of wine, we had a wonderful evening of photography with Marie joining in with setting up pictures and appearing in some of them as well.
The session continued in the morning, if anything the mood being more intense without the alcohol, inspiring some memorable images including this one.
PS (21 Nov.2017) I noticed I had posted an old scan with a lot of grain/noise – this is a new one with improved tonality and detail but still rather grainy because of the uprated Ilford HP5 film.

Funny how a small thing can make or break a photo. This pose just wasn't working until I asked her to raise her leg, and then it all came together...
