We passed many of these wind farms, on the way out of the Elbe into the North Sea. Note the various stages of construction on these massive tower farms.

Mr. Nicolas Codori emigrated from the Alsace region of France in the late 1820s, and built this farm from land he purchased in 1854. It's not clear who actually lived here during the battle of Gettysburg - I believe he leased his farm to others, but he himself lived in the town of Gettysburg proper. He was a fairly well-to-do butcher, worth $11,000, who used the farm to raise livestock. Eleven K was a LOT of money in those days!

 

This picturesque barn along Emmitsburg Pike was built in 1884, after Mr. Codori's death, so it did not exist during the battle of Gettysburg. However, battle swirled around the Codori farm on the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg, July 2nd, 1863, and the next day it was the center of Pickett's charge. There may be as many as 500 Confederate soldiers buried here.

Looking west from approximately in front of where our home was in the early 1960's on Guadalupe. The brick and iron fence on the left side belongs to the Seminario Bautista (Baptist Seminary) which remains unchanged.
