With 10,192 ft. Spanish Fork Peak in the background, a westbound Rio Grande merchandise train rolls into Springville, Utah the evening of May 17, 1976. The power consist includes GP30, GP40, GP35, SD45, and SD40T-2 models, the backbone of D&RGW's fleet of turbocharged EMD locomotives.
The tulips are back! The tulips are back. Are you as excited as I am?
Still, more wabi-sabi; that may never change. This one fell over the side of the vase, so I shot it like this; I tried it right side up, but I liked this better somehow - or did I try it upside down, as this was how I found it? Life just gets more unclear as I get older; I'd anticipated it would be the other way around! As usual, my interest here is in color and texture, and above all the way the lines move around in the frame.
BTW, I've taken to putting a white rim around these images on black because, on my iPhone flickr app, it is otherwise difficult to discern the image's edges. I made it tiny because, while large mats look lovely on my desktop monitor, they make it hard for my tired old eyes to view an image on my iPhone's small screen.
Popped into the Dales this afternoon - some cracking light. Lots of Tourists, what with roads closed around Reeth
A hot afternoon sun makes a hazy appearance, as Canadian Pacific train 281 rockets westbound through Ixonia with a leader one wouldn't expect to see these days, but I'm glad I did.

The second day of Hotlaps at Marina Dorica ended.
Many sailors have tried their hand at the timed test, a beautiful show.
Hotlaps will remain in Marina Dorica until Saturday.
We are waiting for you to have fun with us, or even just to watch and enjoy the best SL sailors at 'work'.

Here's a female Hooded Merganser with HER crayfish. You can see the object here is to break those legs off for easier swallowing. Her hood is a bit flat here but when fully fluffed, she's a knockout. The first sign I get for female vs immature/nonbreeding male is the yellowy color in her beak, while the male's is solid black. Second is the deep brown eye, vs. the male's golden eye.
The first time I eventually realized when I was looking at a nonbreeding male, he was with some breeders and seemed to be practicing his moves and I thought it was a misguided female. Only later did I get it.
America - „A horse with no name“
www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSZXWdKSQNM
On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds
The heat was hot, and the ground was dry
But the air was full of sound
I′ve been through the desert
On a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert, you can remember your name
'Cause there ain′t no one for to give you no pain
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
After two days in the desert sun
My skin began to turn red
After three days in the desert fun
I was looking at a river bed
And the story it told of a river that flowed
Made me sad to think it was dead
You see I've been through the desert
On a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert, you can remember your name
'Cause there ain′t no one for to give you no pain
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
After nine days, I let the horse run free
′Cause the desert had turned to sea
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The ocean is a desert with it's life underground
And a perfect disguise above
Under the cities lies a heart made of ground
But the humans will give no love
You see I′ve been through the desert
On a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert, you can remember your name
'Cause there ain′t no one for to give you no pain
La, la, la, la, la, la

A point at which the wind dropped. It picked up again and I never saw this lovely reflection thereafter

We've had a few spins around the sun, Lynn and I, and I honestly can't think of what I'd rather do on New Year's Day then head outside together on a cold and snowy day to enjoy the moment. Well..... maybe when it's a bit warmer, but this is a pretty close second.
I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready.. ♫
