From my collection

You have got to have seashell trivet to serve seafood. I promise I did not string these together!

Shells. Lots of shells. Millions of shells on this beach.

Sea shell macro on black background. Focus stacked composite of 20 photos

Finding this flawless Pear Whelk seashell was one of the highlights of the recent shelling adventure at Folly Beach, South Carolina. This particular whelk was still alive so of course there was no keeping him, but capturing this perfection was plenty good enough for me. Once the photo session was over I tossed him back into the water so he could continue his adventure as well. Thanks for visiting! :). -H3

A Seashell on the beach, at Ross Sands, Northumberland

The beautifully colored and highly variable calico scallop are one of everyone’s favorite shells to collect. They can be almost any color, including red, orange, yellow, purple, pink, white, black, and every combination of the above.

Treasure chest of seashells. Studio lighting

Haven't got a clue how the bokeh came out minty green - it was one of those little photographic surprises that happens sometimes. :-))

Seashells - New South Wales, Australia

This monochrome photograph showcases a collection of seashells arranged artistically against a dark background. The black and white tones emphasize the textures and patterns of the shells, highlighting their spiraling forms and the intricate lines that trace the growth of each shell.

The shells vary in size and shape, with some featuring elongated spires and others displaying more rounded, compact forms. Their placement in the composition seems intentional, creating a balance between the various shapes and directing the eye across the image. The play of light and shadow is masterfully captured, with the light source coming from the side, casting deep shadows and enhancing the three-dimensional quality of the shells.

The choice of black and white photography strips away the distraction of color, allowing the viewer to focus on the forms, lines, and textures that make each shell unique. The arrangement evokes a sense of natural symmetry and beauty, often found in objects sculpted by the sea. The overall effect is one of elegance and quiet beauty, inviting reflection on the wonders of the natural world.

"Mary whispered strange legends about the golden shell, of how it held every sound and every spellbound secret of the sea"

Mary's Golden Shell is a feature in the Childrens story book "The Sea Swallow" based on the Mythological Coast and the lost forest under the sea at Cleveleys in Lancashire.

One cannot collect all the beautiful shells on the beach. One can collect only a few, and they are more beautiful if they are few.

Sea Shell, Sea Shell,

Sing me a song, O Please!

A song of ships, and sailor men,

And parrots, and tropical trees,

Of islands lost in the Spanish Main

Which no man ever may find again,

Of fishes and corals under the waves,

And seahorses stabled in great green caves.

Sea Shell, Sea Shell,

Sing of the things you know so well.
