An unmistakable large, crow-sized woodpecker, all black with a red crown, which is reduced in females. Powerful, straight, and rather flappy flight without the undulations of other woodpeckers. Very noisy, with a strident "ke-yaa" given when landing or perched and a "krry-krry-krry" call uttered in flight. Found in a range of forest types, especially older mixed forest.

The look of determination fills the eyes of this Coopers hawk as it begins his search for food, having just settled in one of the trees by the side of the pond.
This juvenile Bald Eagle made several over water circles in search of a fish. Eventually it was successful. It was exciting to see and photograph one this close.
Searching for heaven, by the drums is perfect for my sitting in the hills waiting for the light show to begin, a perfect start to any day, I just love the fact you haven't got a clue what will happen. Suilven is just a great backdrop.
