I saw this merganser and partner fishing for their breakfast this morning just before sunrise. I wasn't trying for the dive shot but when I saw it up close I thought it would make an OK pairing with the searching shot.

Sea King XV666 under the lights during Northolt Night Shoot XXX.

Helicopter: HeliOperations Westland Sea King HUR.5 XV666 "Damian".

Location: RAF Northolt (EGWU), London, UK.

A shot like this has been an idea in my head for more than two years. It finally took a rental lens to get the view that I wanted.

Jim Richardson did a similar image from somewhere in Kansas in a recent National Geographic article. He chose to use flash to light up a tree, but I truly like the black silhouette which is how I saw the scene as I stared into the Milky Way last night. Do yourself a favor, get out to a location with dark skies and no moon...the Milky Way from horizon to horizon is unforgettable. It bothers me that dark sky sites are increasingly difficult to find (as you can see from small town and interstate lights in the bottom of this frame).

No incident, only a spectacular drill.

puffins are polite. While spending hours observing, photographing, and napping (yup) with puffins, there was never a single squabble amongst them. There is always room for one more to perch alongside and everyone just gets along.

The common ostrich (Struthio camelus) or simply ostrich, is a species of large flightless bird native to certain large areas of Africa. It is one of two extant species of ostriches, the only living members of the genus Struthio in the ratite order of birds. The other is the Somali ostrich (Struthio molybdophanes), which was recognized as a distinct species by BirdLife International in 2014 having been previously considered a very distinctive subspecies of ostrich. The common ostrich belongs to the order Struthioniformes. Struthioniformes previously contained all the ratites, such as the kiwis, emus, rheas, and cassowaries. However, recent genetic analysis has found that the group is not monophyletic, as it is paraphyletic with respect to the tinamous, so the ostriches are now classified as the only members of the order. Phylogenetic studies have shown that it is the sister group to all other members of Palaeognathae and thus the flighted tinamous are the sister group to the extinct moa. It is distinctive in its appearance, with a long neck and legs, and can run for a long time at a speed of 55 km/h (34 mph) with short bursts up to about 70 km/h (43 mph), the fastest land speed of any bird. The common ostrich is the largest living species of bird and lays the largest eggs of any living bird (the extinct elephant birds of Madagascar and the giant moa of New Zealand laid larger eggs). The common ostrich's diet consists mainly of plant matter, though it also eats invertebrates and small reptiles. It lives in nomadic groups of 5 to 50 birds. When threatened, the ostrich will either hide itself by lying flat against the ground, or run away. If cornered, it can attack with a kick of its powerful legs. Mating patterns differ by geographical region, but territorial males fight for a harem of two to seven females. The common ostrich is farmed around the world, particularly for its feathers, which are decorative and are also used as feather dusters. Its skin is used for leather products and its meat is marketed commercially, with its leanness a common marketing point. R_21455

5dmkII with EF300mm f/2.8L IS USM +2.0x

Lake Sammamish, from Marymoor Park.

for those of you who remember my series on Lake Sammamish, NO, this is NOT from two years ago! i actually took it yesterday morning. i decided to give it a try at going to the lake again, early in the morning yesterday. no regrets having done so. it was so amazing that i actually went back this morning, despite the freezing temperatures.

i admit i am more interested in architectures, silhouettes, as well as situations where both can be smartly combined into successful scenes. However, neglecting landscape photography is just not good. besides, the black and white approach allows me so see things in an entirely different angle. kind of like a renewal, for the better. No need to say, it was a job for my 5dmkII as well as telephoto lenses.

having bought an m9 as well as the ricoh GRDiv, i soon realized i wasn't going to be capable to selling my L glass and long lenses in exchange. maybe one day, but for now they're still part of my creative process.

on a side note: this is shot at f14. the problem is that the 5dmkII sensor is SO dusty, i had litterally dozens of black dots on the photo. it took me 20 minutes to remove all of them. i guess shooting above f4 is becoming an issue with such a dusty sensor.

Robots piloting bigger robots on a strange alien planet, that's the sauce!

So I started trying to build a more traditional Zoid dino but wasn't feeling it for some reason so it evolved/devolved into a more chunky toy thing. More along the lines of Starriors and Micronauts etc, real scruffy-looking. I got some more of those leg parts in blue and yellow as I want to so a couple version in different colourways, they should look cool together.

the cykron on left I binned it was scrapped

The Horde is feared across the galaxies for the vastness of its ranks but despite the strength of its numbers it still needs infrastructures to support the war efforts.

Infrastructures that can be sabotaged.

On one of the many war ravaged planets this is exactly the mission of an elite unit operating behind the lines. Small teams of operators are targeting the Horde’s assets in order to turn the tide of ongoing conflict.

This may not be their homeworld but they have an history with the Horde, one made with blood and never-ending battles, and they will bot falter in the fulfillment of their duty.

A part the sleeveless armor, which honestly does not make a lot of sense because if you spend money in making an armor make one that can fully protect you lol (arm wounds can reduce combat effectiveness too), they are badass soldiers.

The characters are Gears of War COG Soldiers action figures by Neca (one is a rarer gold version).

The Horde mentioned above is the same organization from this other photo: www.flickr.com/photos/133750589@N08/26115291592/in/photos...

I planned to post another outdoor photo of my Starcraft Marine action figure but I run into some lighting issue so I decided to post this one instead :) I made some experimentation with blue and reddish/orange light in the same image :)

I hope you like it :)

The pelicans are enjoying the abundance of ale wives (small fish) and have settled in at Sheboygan, Wisconsin's North Point . We, the People, are enjoying the abundance of pelicans. This is their longest visit to this part of Lake Michigan in recent years, and never have the come in such numbers.
