I just liked the contrast between the 1066 sculpture and the enclosed space thingy in the background ... plus the light and clouds were pretty nice :))

Like other cities, many imaginative animal scupltures are dotted around Ventspils- in this case, cows. Several are along the historic seaside area, and two are huge. Fun mini-surprises when on a stroll, which in Ventspils is almost obligatory.

The 4 metres high and 7 metres long cow is located in Sarkanmuiža Meadow, in front of the shopping centre "Tobago". Each year about 10 000 plants are planted in the sculpture

This photograph was taken in Buffalo Bayou Park near Downtown Houston during my recent visit to attend meetings and conference.

This is one of seven “Tolerance” sculptures created by internationally renowned Spanish sculptor Jaume Plensa and sited in

According to Houston Arts Foundation, the seven human figures represent the seven continents. Each embodies the need for tolerance, openness, and understanding towards others’ cultures, values, and faiths. The framework of each sculpture consists of alphabetic symbols from nine different languages around the world, reflecting Plensa’s belief that no matter the language we think in, our lives are similar.

It was a pleasant evening admiring the seven sculptures and trying to find appropriate viewpoints of these figures with the surroundings.

A scuplture representing the Horn of Amalthea in Agios Nikolaos on Crete.

Amalthea was the she-goat nurse of the god Zeus who nourished him with milk while he was hiding from his father in the Dictaean Cave. When Zeus reached maturity he created his thunder-shield (the aigis) from her hide and the horn of plenty (cornucopia or keras amaltheias) from her horn.

"Amateurs talk strategy, professionals talk logistics".

Whilst a lot of flashing images have been on peoples' telescreens of late, it is clear a lot of people have become armchair generals and sitting room diplomats.

However, physical reality determines what happens in the real world. Some countries ought to be doing certain things for sure but that is a world away from what is happening.

Recent events have shown some countries are stronger or weaker than hitherto imagined. Some alliances or power blocks will no doubt get a rude awakening.

If events are as portrayed, then realignments are inevitable and

access to raw materials will become key. To have such resources, global trade needs to continue as expected, or you need to have your own primary and secondary industries and have not mothballed them or sold them off to a country that no longer likes you.

Also, it is hard to be at war with a country upon whom you are resource-dependent for the next five years (conservative estimate).

PS. Having a look at Orwell's map for 1984 power blocks map is somewhat illuminating.

A sculpture by Giannino Castiglioni in Milan's Monumental Cemetery. It depicts the Last Supper, but the main figure bears the features of Davide Campari, son of Gaspare Campari, the inventor of the famous bitter liqueur. Davide himself invented cordial. He also had the brilliant idea of commissioning advertising posters from renowned artists and developed the brand worldwide. He also transformed his café (in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, near the Duomo) into a chic establishment that welcomed all the prominent figures of Milanese society. This Last Supper, which is missing one figure, represents members of his family. The epitaph "Sibi et suis" on the tomb means "for himself and his family" (in all modesty).
