Available Now: Pearl Harbor: The Movie and the Moment Hardcover

aimcollectibles.blogspot.com/2011/11/pearl-harbor-movie-a...

As the title portends, this extravagantly illustrated book has more to do with the recently released movie than with the historical event. Still, its plethora of full-page color photos will prove irresistible to both budding directors and historians. Following a preface by the movie's producer, director, and scriptwriter (and several obligatory pages on the cast), the book devotes the next three parts to an overview of America and Pearl Harbor before, during, and after the bombing raid. The broadly informative text is supplemented by sidebars, a time line of events of December 7, 1941, and illustrations showing how many of these events are depicted in the movie. The final section deals strictly with the creation of the film, explaining how the makers handled stunts and both aerial and underwater shooting. Quotes from the film's participants reveal how period costuming, weaponry, and various aspects of the attack-including the rollover of the battleship Oklahoma-were re-created.

Master Simon Wong is originally from China and has been a British resident since 1978. Master Simon Wong is a spiritual Master, a Feng Shui Master, a professional Chinese Astrologer, an artist, musician, songwriter, scriptwriter and author. Master Simon Wong does not give names to his paintings. The Tao Te Ching states: The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao. The name that can be named is not the eternal Name. When the Master uses the finger to point at the moon the student should not just be looking at the finger. The finger is just a tool pointing to the direction. Painting is the same, the medium that is used is not important, it is the mental expression behind the art work that gives a picture its spirit. After perfecting his artistic style for the last 40 years, Master Simon Wong is now exhibiting and selling his work.

It all started in 1994. TV scriptwriter Stefan Struik had an interview with a meditating hermit in Baarn (NL) who was complaining about gnomes who disturbed the power network in his house. A month later he ran into trolls in a Norwegian clothing store in the Dutch-Frisian village Dokkum. A year before he got surprised by the amount of one meter high garden gnomes just across the border between Germany and Poland. It all seemed to point into a new direction he would hit a few months later. In December 1994 he opened with his sister a small game and bookstore in Delft (NL), named Elf Fantasy Shop. The games were a golden opportunity. Three years later the duo could open an second store in The Hague.

In 1995 Stefan also started a new adventure with a free magazine called Elf Fantasy Magazine. In 2001 the magazine became professionalized and despite it never realised any profits it existed until 2009.

Stefan and his sister already organised lectures in the Elf Fantasy Shops about druidism, Tolkien and other fantasy related subjects. In 2001 Stefan decided to combine a few things into a totally new and unique festival concept that later would be copied many times: the Elf Fantasy fair. Starting in the historical theme parc Archeon (NL) it moved the year after to the largest castle in the Netherlands: castle de Haar. With the exception of 2004 (castle Keukenhof, Lisse) it remained in castle de Haar, Haarzuilens since then. In 2009 a second version of the Elf Fantasy Fair started 400 meters from the border with Germany in the small village Arcen in Northern Limburg. In January 2013 the name Elf Fantasy Fair™ was replaced by the name Elfia™. The spring edition of Elfia is also called the 'Light Edition', while the autumn edition is characterized as the 'dark edition'.

Final Project:

You will be required to work on a project that includes photographing (a minimum of) five different individuals in the style of your choice. Once you have selected the style, keep it consistent throughout the series.

You will also need:

1. an establishing shot (an image that tells us something about your idea. For example if you were to do a series of chefs the establishing shot could be a close-up of a measuring spoons.)

2. a self-portrait, with a brief artist statement

Side Note: A lot of thing didn't come through like I had wanted. Had flakey models, then scored on a really expressive friend of a friend, and I got these new to me models that showed up and kicked ass, then I got severely sick and ended up in urgent care Monday, etc. But hopefully I was able to get domestic abuse portrayed like I wanted to. I decided not to try for sexual abuse because no matter how I tried it, it could be construed as porn, and that isn't something I wish to ever touch upon.

Artist's Statement:

Emmy's work is influenced by elements in the world that most people consider to be imperfect, broken, or weak. She builds upon imperfection because it is the only true indicator of character and beauty. She captures imperfection as the summit of her art. She is inspired by things that surround her every day, and uses them as a creative base. As the proud divorced, single mother of five closely spaced children she has no shortage of material from which to draw.

With her work, it is difficult to ignore the obvious experience and background Emmy has in graphic design. In addition to photography and graphic design, she is an entrepreneur, business ideas person, CEO of a small assessment corporation, movie scriptwriter, mother, and friend to all, even those pesky telemarketers if they happen to catch her on the telephone at home.

The most important thing to Emmy is the opportunity to create art. To be an artist, even an unknown one, is more important to her than going forth and finding notoriety. She feels the only way for her to create is to continue growing as an artist whether by introducing new techniques, new mediums, or a combination of both. Her primary focus is on creating art that reaches across boundaries. She creates art that speaks figuratively and demands its own place within its world. She tries to create art that will link people to her, and with her.

Fast Facts on Domestic Violence

Battering on women is the most under reported crime in America.

Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women between the ages of 15 and 44 in the United States; more than car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined. "Violence Against Women, A Majority Staff Report," Committee on the Judiciary, United States Senate, 102nd Congress, October 1992, p.3.

Ben Stein Biography

Ben Stein has had what may be the most diverse career of anyone now on the national scene. He is in every sense a Renaissance Man. He has been an award winning actor, economist, writer, journalist, and teacher, and is equally well known in America’s board rooms and in America’s dormitories and fraternity houses. He is certainly the only man to be a famous humorous teacher about economics and law.

Ben Stein was born in Washington D.C., the son of noted economist and writer Herbert Stein. He attended Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, Maryland, where he studied alongside future luminaries Sly Stallone, Carl Berstein, Goldie Hawn, and Connie Chung. He received a B.A. with honors from Economics of Columbia, where he was active in the civil rights movement to secure voting and other legal rights for African-Americans. He was valedictorian of his class, by election of his classmates, at Yale Law School class of 1970, where he also worked strenuously part time as a poverty lawyer and as an activist and demonstrator for civil rights and decent treatment of the poor.

After graduation, he served as a poverty lawyer in the field of advertising, and a teacher about the political content of the film and TV at American University, UC Santa Cruz and Pepperdine. He was a speechwriter and lawyer for Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. He also did legal work for Mr. Nixon, in the darkest days of Watergate. He is not, repeat not, Deep Throat.

He was a columnist for The Wall Street Journal and also wrote editorials for the Journal. In June of 1976, he moved to Hollywood to become a novelist, TV sitcom writer, and movie scriptwriter. He has written and published 17 books, seven fiction and the rest nonfiction. His diary of his first year in Hollywood, DREEMZ, was called “stunning” by the New York Times. His novel a Ludes’, about a drug and money addiction in Los Angeles, was made into the movie “The Boost” with James Woods and Sean Young. He has also written many screen plays, some of which were actually made into movies. Most of his books are about Hollywood and mass culture, but some are self-help, and some are about finance. He labored especially hard on a decade long project of exposing financial fraud and the self-dealing at large companies. His work on the Milken/Drexel junk bond scheme was instrumental in the recovery of billions for investors and tax payers.

Stein has also taught about law and economics and securities law at Pepperdine Law School for many years and has served as an expert witness in many securities law cases.

In 1986, with no professional training, Stein became an instant cult hero for his role as the boring economics teacher in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, which scene was directly voted one of the fifty funniest scenes in American film history. After that, Stein went onto be a recurring character in Charles in Charge, and then The Wonder Years, and then in 1997, began his long running hit quiz show, Win Ben Stein’s Money. The show has won six Emmies and Stein has won one for best game show host. In all, his show has been nominated for 17 Emmies.

Ben Stein’s latest book is How To Ruin Your Life. He writes regularly for E-Online and The American Spectator and over his life has been a columnist for New York Magazine, Los Angeles Magazine, Barrons, and many other magazines.

Stein lives with his beloved wife of 36 years, Alexandra Denman, and their son, the devilishly handsome Thomas Stein, in Los Angeles, California, center of the universe.

Two of the authors are American including a Hollywood scriptwriter, and the third is from the UK. Bob Stevens (Malcolm In The Middle and The Wonder Years) presents "Here Today" with John and Paul sparring about their songs and exchanging tender moments from their childhoods. Trevor Boelter's "And Now It's All This" deals with Brian Epstein sorting out the storm that followed John's celebrated remark about The Beatles being more popular than Jesus. UK writer Neil Walden offers a black tale about Maxwell called "Silver Hammer Man". For more details: www.acedrama.co.uk

Birthdays have always been special, and all of us eagerly wait to celebrate our big day with our friends and family. One of the most memorable memories of our childhood is our birthday parties. In 1965 we got one of the most talented and versatile actors of Bollywood. On December 27, 1965, Khan pariwar (famous Bollywood scriptwriter Salim Khan and his wife Salma khan) welcomed their elder son and superstar of Bollywood Salman khan. With his blockbuster movies and tremendous acting and dancing skills, Salmantill date manages to hold the position of one of the biggest stars in Bollywood. Today Salman is celebrating his 54th birthday and we all wish him a great year ahead.

They beamed me down to the planet with a red shirt. That could only mean one thing: I was a goner. Red shirts die, but Captain Kirk ALWAYS survives. Why? What's his secret??

Then it came to me: OVERACTING!! Of course!

I began swaggering, gesturing wildly, and added... unnecessary... dramatic... pauses... all over the... place. It worked. The scriptwriters fixed the transporter and beamed me back up in no time.

Week 22: A Month of Sundays

p.s. Someone studied red shirts to excess. Yikes!

Folk of a certain age will know the connection between Tooting Broadway station on the Northern Line and the iconic slogans of 'Power to the People!' and 'Freedom for Tooting!' courtesy of the Marxist anarchist Wolfie Smith, the BBC TV sitcom character created by the late comedy scriptwriter John Sullivan when he wrote the sitcom Citizen Smith between 1977 and 1980. Citizen Smith featured the iconic role of Wolfie Smith played by Robert Lindsay along with the regular supporting cast of Cheryl Hall, Mike Grady, George Sweeney, Tony Millan, Stephen Greif, the late Peter Vaughan and the late Hilda Braid.
