Tencel. Dyed warp and weft. Hand-made screen. Screen-printed discharge.

Series of prints I just finished for my final screenprinting project. They're based on The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, on her life itself, and on how at many points in my life I've related to her and found comfort in that book.

These are the supplies for the 'God is Good' shirts I'm going to be printing. Woohoo!

What you see here (except for the freezer) represents almost $500 in supplies.

As you can see if you can read the labels, all of my inks and supplies (save for the emulsion) are environmentally-friendly and even the emulsion is drain-safe!

To kick off our Winter 2010 program of events, we had our first AGDA Screenprinting workshop. It was well attended despite the chilly weather and the promise of getting dirty on a week night. Led by Iona Johnson, the group learnt about the photographic method for screenprinting over 3 nights. It's always nice to see what other people do with the same set of instructions and we had some fantastic work produced very quickly! A mixture of both students and design professionals were in attendance which make the atmosphere fun and friendly. Thankyou to all who came along and stay tuned for our next workshop series item - Bookbinding!

This is one of my screen print from my first year of my BA Fine Art course. Again it is drawn from my life drawing observations. I wasn't as impressed with this outcome but it's all part of the learning experiance.

I like the effect of the dye splotches in the background. I wonder if dying cloth then printing a design like this (hard edges) could end up looking like a colored-in design? Maybe I'll try someday. For now, I'm going to stick to screenprinting, and put learning about dying on the "to do, someday" list.

the three final pieces for my AS urban project. done as screenprints with paper stencils. they took ages. worth it though.
