I finished my first class at screenprinting on Tuesday and used an old sketch as a first try. The last night was a bit manic as we had to finish all our prints in one go and we still had 2 to 3 screens to do. Screenprinting and quickness don’t go well at all, its got to be slow and precise.
They’re not as registered as I’d like them to be, but that’s okay as its more an experiment.

The Stefonovich Family grew out of my boredom with the traditional roles of Barbie and her compatriots. It all began in 1980 when my Malibu Skipper doll seamlessly made the transition from wholesome teen beachbum to a crazy lady with a penchant for late night yodeling/opera singing sessions. Her name was Stefonovich. She began terrorizing the other Barbies, a one girl barrage of spastic annoyance. Stefonovich was alone in her efforts to tempt the other Barbies away from their bland domestication until I met my childhood best friend, who coincidentally was also named Heather. She immediately embraced my demented ideas and it was the power of our friendship as two misfit girls that was the fertile soil from which the Stefonovich Family grew. There are sixteen members that span 3 generations ranging from Great Auntie Arthritis down to the youngest; the diminutive Windex. They each had their own distinctive personalty, voice and fashion sense. I’ve decided that It's due time that they become immortalized and emerge for the world to see in this series of portraits that I have created. I had so much fun making these, I hope you enjoy them too. It is with great pleasure that I present: Boytom.
Stefonovich Family, Fig. 13 (Boytom) is a 6 X 8.5" Gocco print on 8.5 X 11" recycled, acid free, archival quality, heavy chipboard. It is my original artwork Gocco printed in 3 layers; red, dark wine, turquoise and metallic gold ink. It is a limited edition of 50 prints and is signed and numbered. It would look great framed or hung by a clip, alone or paired with other members of the family.
all my letterpress prints so far (and a screenprint) i'll have at least 5-6 more prints before class ends. :D i need to get smaller clips and find the rest of my screen prints and etching prints so i can rearrange 'em. (also the top left is a print, it's just printed blind, it's the same sugar skull design as the one below it.)
I'm so in love with this print that I found at the thrift store the other day. It is by Nicholas Takis (1903-1965). It looks like he is actually a fairly well known painter, his original paintings sell for a good amount of money. I'm pretty sure this is a screen print though since it is on paper and is huge (20"x26"). It is weird that the image goes right up to the edge of the paper though. When I first looked at it I thought it said "Azusa Flower Mart" and I got all excited that it was a local scene from Azusa, CA but it really looks like it is says "Azulsa Flower Mart" or "Azulea Flower Mart." If any one knows any more about the subject or the artist please let me know. Thanks.
