A wonderful day with Cross Catholic Outreach at our annual Box of Joy screening and packing event in Miami. Volunteers, staff, and our team of Outreach Priests came together with one purpose: to bring Christmas joy to children who might otherwise receive nothing at all.
This year’s gifts are headed to boys and girls in Guatemala, Peru, the Dominican Republic, and Africa - children living in deep poverty, many in remote villages where even basic necessities are scarce.
Box of Joy is one of Cross Catholic Outreach’s simplest and most beautiful ministries: families, parishes, and schools pack small shoebox-sized gifts filled with toys, school supplies, hygiene items, and personal notes. CCO screens, sorts, and ships them overseas, ensuring every child receives a gift chosen with love and delivered with dignity.
The energy in the room was contagious—laughter, music, prayer, and a sea of raised hands celebrating another year of generosity. And in the smaller group photo, my fellow Outreach Priests gathered with our longtime coordinator, Joanne, who is retiring after many years of dedicated service. Her quiet leadership has touched countless lives, both here and abroad.
A joyful day, and a privilege to witness hope being packed one box at a time.
