I usually do not like texture on flower petals and take pains to erase it off. But this flower was so out of focus, keeping the texture looked better in an artsy way. I also wanted to try using just one texture. This is Flypaper Textures "Rainbow Trout" used in three blend modes - one Multiply (very lightly erased) and two Soft Lights. Straightened and cropped in Picasa.

This is so much better large on black!

I saw a video last night by Bryan Peterson that showed how to make this image, and decided to try it myself. This was done by shooting through a windows screen that was sprayed with an emulsion of water and cooking oil, and an out of focus colorful scarf behind the screen. I used all three of my Kenko extension tubes in order to get close to the screen. Here's a link to that video which is on Adorama's learning center ..... www.adorama.com/ALC/Article.aspx?googleid=0013661&ali....

The only change I did to Bryan's technique was to aim a Strobie 130 flash through a snoot to brighten up the background. The strobe was in manual mode and was triggered by a Tiny Trigger from scottrobertstudio.com.

Other pictures featuring bright colors and emulsions can be seen in my pretentiously named, Emulsion Art set. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157625787156195/...

Khammouane Province shows Children Under 5 mortality rates of 29/1,000 with high maternal and infant malnutrition. CU5 stunting remains at 30% and over 59% and 62% of CU5 suffer from anemia and sub-clinical vitamin A deficiency, respectively. The province has one of the lowest exclusive breast-feeding rates in Lao PDR and many children fail to consume sufficient and diverse food at each meal: Only 1 in 5 children of 6 to 23 months receive the recommended number of meals and variety of food per day. Geographical remoteness prevents especially ethnic minority women from accessing adequate antenatal care and postnatal care from health centres.

Widely observable in the rolling hills of Tuscany we discovered two of the ugliest concrete blocks we have ever explored. But never judge a book by its cover! This old ruin is actually filled with left behind furniture and natural decay. It’s this combination that made us fall in love with urban exploration in the first place! To experience some amazing sights and to learn the full story, make sure to watch our adventure report:

I watched Frozen and Disney's El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, California, in an advance screening, on Sunday November 24, 2013. It was a matinee show. I arrived just at the scheduled start time and took my seat. They delayed the start for a few minutes, waiting on late comers. It looked like a full house. The theatre inside was decorated with the wintry scenes from the movie, including Elsa's Ice Castle. There was a pre-show appearance of an ice carving team of two women, who used chain saws and other power tools to carve two large blocks of ice into a snow man. After that the audience was greeted by two face characters dressed as Anna and Elsa, who danced a bit and waved to us. Unfortunately my photos of them were blurry, as they were moving about too quickly. After the show, I went downstairs and looked at the displays, There were giant movie posters with lifesized images of the characters, so people could pose next to them and have their pictures taken. There was also a giant statue of Olaf the snowman with a ukele and Hawaiian grass skirt. In the theatre lobby there was a line to get into the newly re-opened Disney Studio Store and Soda Fountain Shop, which is now rechristened as the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop. It was way too crowded to attempt to buy anything, especially DSF pins, so I just looked around. I was surprised to see that they were selling the old style (2011) Disney Parks princess dolls, which I think are far superior to the current (2013) versions. As I left the theatre lobby, there was a giant diorama of the Frozen main characters with their heads sticking out of the snow, as in the main Frozen movie poster.

Join us on Friday, December 6th at 7:00 p.m in the Folino Theater at Dodge College of Film & Media Arts / Chapman University for the second annual screening of Project W documentary films. If you're around Orange County, California come check it out!

Last year, Dodge College launched a new initiative to make films about inspiring women leaders across the country who are creating change through stories of courage in the face of adversity.

The four documentary profiles include a story of an Inuit Eskimo woman working to stop domestic abuse in her small Alaskan fishing village ( Daughters of Emmonak ), a film about the Pink Helmet Posse, three six-year-old girls who aspire to be professional skateboarders, a story about a lesbian motorcycle gang based in Long Beach, and a powerful essay documentary about sexism in the surfing industry.

Please join us as we view and celebrate these compelling, innovative, and important films.

The screening is FREE and will be followed by a FREE FOOD reception and discussion with the filmmakers.
