Writer/director Michel Haznavicius and actors Berenice Bejo and Jean Dujardin answered audience questions at the October 25, 2011 screening of "The Artist." Senator Ted Kennedy, Jr., Senator Len Fasano, and other state and local officials to announce that Connecticut has become the second state in the nation to launch a statewide screening program to test all newborns for adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD). The screening program aims to detect the genetic brain disorder in newborns delivered in Connecticut by adding ALD to the list of genetic and metabolic disorders all newborns are required to be screened for under Connecticut State Law. The bill was inspired by Brian Kelley, a Branford resident who has ALD. Several young children have already been diagnosed with ALD as a result of this program, allowing their parents to secure treatment that will prevent their children from developing the most severe consequences of this disease. Hitting 50 seems to trigger a barrage of cancer screening invitations. Having lost both my parents to cancer in their 60s it makes sense to take up the offer of free tests. Today's appointment was at 14.20 at my local hospital. I went straight from work and got there 15 minutes early. I was cheerfully logged and scanned and was back in my car on the way home by 14.25. Glad to see my taxes being so well spent.

A free screening of CRSHD, a feature film by Emily Cohn '17, was shown at the Apollo theater in Oberlin followed by a Q&A session with Cohn and cast members. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in April.
