In an area in the rear of Oak Grove Cemetery in Paducah, Kentucky is the final resting place of John T. Scopes. Scopes was the Teacher in Dayton Tennessee who taught Darwin's theory of Evolution in violation of Tennessee Law. The resulting trial was referred to as "The Scopes Monkey Trail. After the trial Scopes suffered from depression and shunned the spotlight. He died on October 21, 1970 and is buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Paducah, Kentucky.
