Balanced Rock, one of the most iconic features of Arches National Park in Utah, stands a staggering 39m tall from the ground; the balanced rock itself is 17m tall. Another way of describing the size of that boulder on the top is that it is equivalent to the volume of three yellow American schoolbuses...
Of course, while this formation may appear to be an epic balancing act, it’s actually not balanced at all. The slick rock boulder of Entrada Sandstone sits attached to its eroding pedestal of Dewey Bridge mudstone. The exposure of these two rock strata layers are ideal for the formation of arches and balanced rocks.
Balanced Rock defies gravity but this won’t always be the case. Eventually, the 3,200 tonne boulder will tumble down as the erosional process continues to shape the landscape.
The marked path gives a limited sense of scale but there weren't many visitors around in early March to get a more human comparison! Scanned from a negative.

In a short spell either side of 9am last Friday, fifteen or sixteen schoolbuses from five different operators were noted heading back along Wallgate to their respective yards. Vision provided two of them including YP59 OEL, a former London Scania Omnicity that had been new to Transdev.
Fleet No 7845. Unlike the other Jonckheere JHVs transferred to Southern Vectis this one is based on a Volvo B12M (the others are B11R) . Seen here in my favourite bus photo spot on the Island outside Mottistone Manor we are waiting time on a glorious late Winter morning before starting the school run from nearby Brighstone.

When I have the time I tend to upload at most two pictures a day to Flickr. When I import images to Lightroom I tag potential uploads with “upload to flickr”, I’ve set up a smart folder to show all the images tagged with “upload to flickr” so at anytime I can view my potential uploads, I can’t imagine organising images without Lightroom. EYMS Volvo B5TL/MCV EvoSeti BF67GHH (805) seen as it heads through Muston with the 09:26 Hunmanby-Scarborough 121.
Scarborough depot has been allocated 804/5/6 out of the twelve EvoSetis which entered service at the start of this month. The trio carry branding for the 121, and are complemented by 807/8/9/10/11 which are based in Hull to work the remaining five 121 duties. The Scarborough trio have replaced B9TLs 780/1/2 on the depot's 121 allocation, with President schoolbuses 587 and 591 moving to Hull, and 595 being withdrawn as a consequence.

My first time driving this one, it is seen at St Helens Station stop before starting the long slog through to Carisbrooke Schools. This vehicle I am informed is the next one into the paint shop to gain the Southern Vectis green livery.
With Rail River Link about to enter their final week of full-time VR operation someone suggested posting a suitable photo each day until next weeks VR farewell, seems like a good plan Steve! :-)
Re-winding back to 2010 when River Link/Dart Pleasure Craft were running this former Embling Bristol VR, DNG233T. It always carried the Emblings livery when with River Link and was a regular on school route 68, which it was running when photographed here in June 2010, it had replaced the former Plymouth Citybus Leyland Atlanteans TTT165/70X which had run on the service in the few years before. The route was taken over later by AB Coaches who usually ran the route with one of their Duple 425s. It is now in the hands of Brixham College themselves who operate it with one of their Alexander Q bodied Volvos. Not a bad selection of vehicles over the years!

Fleet No 7103. Displaying new Southern Vectis vinyls and looking very smart, this has just entered service with the SV schools fleet. In a way it is quite sad this doesn't say Vectis Blue but I do think it is very striking.
This one caught me out when I first saw it from the front. S311CCD is former Stagecoach Western 16311. Most Western schoolbuses carried overall yellow livery with suitable names and logos. Some buses retained fleet colours on the front indicating that, although primarily a scholar's service, it was available to members of the public. Today this Olympian was one of the spares allocated to the Edinburgh T in the Park shuttles.

Anna watching planes from on top of a school bus. This was shot back in the summer of the 2016 near an NYC airport right before Anna moved to Switzerland. Special thanks to Anna for climbing onto a school bus and risking life and limb to get a great photo.
Fleet No 7040 & 7837. I have had 7040 several times in the last few weeks on my school duties. This shot was taken on Friday afternoon on returning to base and finding out this was the last day of service for her and she was subsequently delicenced and SORN'd that very evening. Actually quite sad as I've thoroughly enjoyed my drives over the last few weeks.
The manual Volvos are making way for a newer fleet of Volvos cascaded from Excelsior and as luck would have it I parked next to one here on Friday.
Western used to run a large amount of School contracts using dedicated schoolbuses, over the last 6/7 years these contracts have for various reasons passed to other local independent operators.
Whilst they have not got any dedicated school services, They run a couple of registered local services as school runs in Irvine & Ayr. 50284 with a full load operates the first 30 departure from Greenwood Academy,
Climbing out of Kilbirnie towards Dalry on one of the last days of term back in 2016 is former Hong Kong Olympian 13618, the only one of the many operated as Schoolbuses with Western to not have transferred in from another division at the time.
