Out and about scouting some new roads and happened upon these two old timers from the late 1940's early 1950's. Made me wonder how long they have been sitting here.
This large yellow differential grasshopper has quite the facial expression. It appeared to be passing a fecal pellet at the time, which might explain it.... The exoskeleton of grasshoppers is quite amazing. We may not have many butterflies around this year but there's no shortage of grasshoppers.
Thanks to Tara Lynn for title idea.
I was waiting a long time for several fellow band kids to get out of the way for the picture. Worth it, though.
Found this last week...looks to be a late 30's or 1940's vintage schoolbus that belonged to the Willow Springs school district.
six word story
Now that fall is here and school's back in session, the morning commute can be taxing with the school bus stopping at every other corner to pick up and deliver the kids to school. Still, it's better than waiting at the railroad tracks for 100 boxcars to pass!

Two days ago it was 50 degrees. Yesterday morning, when I went walking, it was in 38 and misty-wet. This morning it's 23 degrees, with 35 mph winds, about four inches of snow so far -- and it's still snowing.
Today I will not be walking.
Blue Bird school bus now a long way from home when seen parked up on the U.K South Coast. Built by the Blue Bird Corporation in Fort Valley Georgia in 2009 and first registered in the U.K in 2019.
There are quite a few small, private bus companies that exist surviving solely on contract work of some sort and school runs are an important part of their income. Secondary schools in towns like Newark have a wide, rural intake requiring transport, back and forth, from small villages and communities. These small companies suffered greatly during lockdown when most children had home-schooling and they were not able to fulfil their contracts!
These contract buses tend to be older models, discarded by the bigger public companies. This one is originally from 2003 and has been repainted in yellow - the colour that American school buses use but not very common over here.
