In a village Kreung.

Ratanakiri province, Cambodia

At first sight this picture wasn't easy to take since I had heard that people in Cambodia, as a lot of other ethnies, are scared of the camera thinking that taking a picture could steal your soul.

When I arrived in this village this woman smiled to me, I came to her, smiling back, and I finally pointed at my camera to "ask" if I could take a picture. She smiled again and nodded. She smiled at her baby too and carried him kindly so I could see them better.

I thanked her with my eyes, the more I could, and showed her the pictures I took. She was very sweet and so beautiful, her son too. It was an amazing so simple moment.

Did you know Danbo is acrophobic?

Well, neither did I. He was standing on the ledge of the basin when he said he was getting too scared of the fall from there which was a whopping 3 ft... :-S

I had to convince him for hours that I could get him down safely and finally he agreed. Everything's well now. He's kinda normal. Though he wouldn't go anywhere near that place now.

Poor him. :( and I, like a retard, was busy taking a shot of his open mouth. How bad am I? :D :D :D muhahahahahaha...

Loads of love

An activist on Lambeth Bridge concerned over the possible consequences from catastrophic climate change.

Never has the issue of climate change been more urgent. The most recent IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) report, published on 4 April 2022, stated that drastic action was needed immediately in order to prevent a climate catastrophe that would mean millions becoming refugees and millions more suffering from malnutrition and famine.

This would require an immediate halt to any investment in or expansion of fossil fuel production. However, despite the stark warning, the UK government is determined to continue investment in North Sea oil and gas, seemingly dedicated to accelerating climate change..

Professor Jim Skea, co-chair of the working group at the IPCC responsible for determining the best measures for mitigating climate change, declared "It's now or never, if we want to limit global warming to 1.5C. Without immediate and deep emissions reductions across all sectors, it will be impossible.'

Realising that years of petitioning and protests had failed to persuade the British government of the need for immediate and profound measures to reduce emissions, Extinction Rebellion decided to launch a week of direct action across Britain. In London, this started on the weekend of 9 and 10 April, with climate change activists marching through central London, for two days of protests which included sit down blockades of Vauxhall and Lambeth bridges. On Lambeth Bridge a group of doctors and nurses refused to leave and were arrested by the police.

According to the group website Doctorsforxr.com, 'Doctors for Extinction Rebellion is a doctors' collective who, appreciating that climate change is an impending public health catastrophe, have decided to undertake civil disobedience with Extinction Rebellion.

Some people are just born to be scared -

This is the first time I've managed to get a shot of a bumblebee. I was scared as hell, but I heard that they're usually pretty docile!

I suppose if you are scared of lizards, then Sugar Mill Gardens is not your kind of place, nor ANY part of Florida for that matter. Our climate is the perfect breeding grounds for these guys, and you see them just about everywhere. They don't harm you as long as you don't try to grab them or something.

I almost didn't notice the "tiny dinosaur" on the bench until I started to process the pic. Like most reptiles, Brown Anole Lizards sun themselves to help with digestion. Being cold blooded, the sun is a necessary thing for them to survive, which is why you don't find these animals too far north. Though we have our cold snaps and it can go below freezing, because the sun comes out all winter, it makes it possible for them to endure the cold.

This is the gate area of Sugar Mill Gardens, where there are benches to either side of where you walk in. The tall, wrought tron gate is locked each day somewhere after 5 PM so no one goes in and vandalizes the ruins.

Esta foto no habria sido posible sin que Iris no le echara narices a recostarse sobre esa pared grasienta y llena de telarañas de cocina abandonada, que mas bien parecia la de un matadero.

Gracias Iris por esta toma y las proximas.

Meet our new Georgia boy, a rescued, poultry-friendly Great Pyrenees named Granger. (His shelter name was Churchill). Thanks so much to Chrissie of Home at Last Dog Rescue. She saw how shut-down and shy Granger was, remembered Mouse's story, and dropped us a line. Thanks also to the rescue people in Georgia who got him out of a jam.

We picked him up and signed the papers yesterday. He's seen here (yesterday) hiding under a bare, two-inch lilac branch, hoping I'll go away. He let me touch him out in the open today for the first time. His terror and his struggle not to flee were palpable and painful. Shy dogs are the bravest dogs of all, I believe.

Granger came from a bad situation in Georgia. His brother, rescued at the same time, didn't survive despite heroic efforts to save him. The people from Home at Last really go the distance for some very tough cases.

Thanks again to Chrissie and all the people from Home at Last for making this possible. We feel really lucky to have this boy at the farm.

We had a run of bad luck in getting a livestock guardian dog this year. Sometimes things take awhile to come together, and in retrospect it often seems that there's a reason for it. I believe this guy is the one we were supposed to find.

There are a couple more pictures in the comments section.

A special message to Pyr Lovers who are reading: Home at Last has a sweet, well-socialized tripod Great Pyrenees named Jackson. Be advised that his story is graphic and terrible, and that Jackson is in much, much better shape than he was when this petfinder ad was written. He'd be a wonderful companion for anyone who is otherwise set up to handle a GP. (Among other things they need a large, fenced area to run in and usually lots of interaction). Please get in touch with Home at Last if you think Jackson may have a place in your life. Feel free to contact me by Flickr mail to get an idea what it's like to have a Pyr around the place and what Pyrs need to thrive.

BTW, I took all these images with a 210mm telephoto. I didn't stick a camera in poor Granger's face. :)
