On Day 6, we left Portland and drove through Tillamook and Cape Meares to Newport. In Tillamook we visited their famous cheese factory, and bought squeaky cheddar cheese curds -- yum! -- and also stopped in at Debbie D.'s Sausage Factory, a Sarah-tip. That was a tiny place filled with salty meats of all kinds, and we picked up a bunch of delicious beef jerky snacks that make other beef jerky snacks seem like another species. Sadly, intellectual thieves, or an overzealous staff member, stole/trashed our cheese and beefy goodness from the Sylvia Beach Hotel in Newport. Grrrr.
This picture was taken along the road on the way to Cape Meares, when we were astounded by what seemed to be thick clouds floating right on the water. I know it looks like fog in the photograph, but it really appeared to be clouds. I don't understand it and would love an explanation, if anyone has one.
And you know, it seems crazy but after a while you start to get inured to these incredible views. There are only so many times your jaw can drop before it gets tired, I think. But at this point in the journey it was still astonishing every time we saw beauty like this, just sitting there next to the road not calling attention to itself.
