These aren't really an antique - they're an imitation of old style kitchen scales. They're now getting pretty old though - perhaps one day they'll be a real antique!
my nephew Theo and one of the toys I brought for his big brother Charlie's 4th birthday. Charlie and lizards? mmm, not so much, as it turns out. Theo and lizards? Winning combination
On our way down from the top (Top/far left) of Blencathra using the path down Scales Fell.. In fact more dangerous than our route up Sharp Edge! The ice/snow was really slippy and Mani went down three times & me twice.! Most of those folks on the zigzag path have turned back..
Three picture stitch here..
Blencathra is in the Lake District in Cumbria UK.

Didn't get any closer than this before it scampered. Another car drove past ... sigh! Little Central Netted Dragon (Ctenophorus nuchalis), Old South Road yesterday.

I'm happy how these rusty gashes turned out. Just fine dabs of burnt umber acrylic paint followed by some light rust chalk powder and gently pulled down after a few minutes with a brush.
This was my first choice but it's SO blurry, I had to go back and take another shot. Personally, I like this pic of me better than the other but the quality is craaaap! (singing crap in a opera voice).
TRP - If I tell you....
PAD - Resolutions for 2011?
Don't tell anyone but I gained MORE than 10 lbs this last year. For someone barely 5'2" that's a lot! Soooo, my resolution? Prepare my own meals to bring to work and only have cheese as a special treat... not a daily snack... and when I say snack, I mean meal. :)
And on a side note, I really can't wait for my special wireless remote to come in the mail. Unless I have something to focus on, many of my selfies are especailly blurry, kinda like this one. And it was far away and I dont' really care.
LATIN NAME: Quadraspidiotus ostreaeformis (Curtis)
LIFE CYCLE: Overwinter on host as immature nymphs (black caps) that mature about pink stage of apple. Live young (crawlers) are produced from June through August. One overlapping generation per year.
MONITORING: Inspect twigs and branches during dormant season, and fruit at harvest, for scales. Crawlers can be detected using double-sided sticky tape around one branch per tree (smooth bark to improve adhesion).
HOSTS: Fruit trees, ornamental trees and shrubs.
COMMENTS: Refer to the description of San Jose scale for distinguishing between European fruit scale and San Jose scale. Crawlers of both scales are yellow to orange in colour, flattened and slow moving. The shell of adult European fruit scale is black and gray whereas that of immature scales is black.
BODY LENGTH: Adult - 1.7 mm.
