I'm exercising and dieting at the moment - need to get my weak leg fixed after last years op, and thought I might as well add in healthy eating and sort out the weight gain. This is a proud moment, as I've lost a stone, and I'm now a psychologically magical '8 something' - OK, so it's basically 9 - but bear with me!
Day 362: Worked my final day of the year today -- from home again -- and even managed to get out for a quick run in the morning, too. But I didn't take my camera on that jaunt, then spent the rest of my day at my desk in the basement.
So I needed a photo, and why not a reproduction of Rockefeller Center in our living room? I "sculpted" the "model" of "Prometheus" out of clay in high school. Tasked with coming up with an idea for an art class project in December, I guess the spirit of the season gave me the idea to recreate -- crudely -- the iconic Midtown holiday tableau. In addition to this attempt at Prometheus (which is about four inches wide), there's a similar-sized tree, but for this photo, I thought our real tree was a better stand-in. There was once an ice rink, too, with blobs representing people (kind of like snowmen -- stubby, blobby legs; a round, blobby middle; and stubby, blobby arms and heads) on a rink. But the "people" began breaking off and disappearing and then a side of the rink cracked and eventually broke off, so we made the decision a few years ago to ditch the rink and keep the tree and Prometheus.
Ah, but Prometheus wasn't even finished until this year. Back in that art class, I ran out of time before the Christmas break and never painted him. His base was always a shiny black, but he remained the coarse, matte white of the kiln-fired clay. I had paints from building models in my youth, so I'm sure I just figured I'd do it on my own time. Who knew that time would be 20-something years later? This year -- on Christmas Day, about two hours before my parents and our other guests arrived -- I picked up a brush and paint that Casey had left out and finally painted him. It looks so good (compared to what it was) I wish I'd done it way back when.
This is the start of a new project, a raised bed for the G scale railroad. I have to use a raised bed for this end of the railroad because of the slope of the yard. The grade would be too much for the engines, the yard drops about 2 feet in a 40 foot stretch.

"Dwelling" (a.k.a. Storage shed) (c!915)
The dwelling is a small, rectangular, one-story, gable-roofed vernacular board-and-batten frame building built
on stone piers. The roof is
surfaced with standing seam metal. It faces south, with its
ridge parallel to the road. The
front (south) elevation has a
plank door on center flanked by windows with 12-pane casement sash. The building's
original use is enigmatic. It first
appeared on the 1915 site plan when it was designated as a dwelling. It is, however, not in keeping with the scale or finish level of residential construction elsewhere at
