Hobbycraft 1/48 Bf 109G-6/R6
Many folks think that model building is just for kids... not so. It's been elevated to an art form by many talented builders around the world. I guess I'm one of those who looks at his modeling as artwork, and this is perhaps my second best effort to date.
This Bf 109G was finished as a Romanian Air Force machine and carries the roundels which replaced the old crosses after Romania switched sides in WWII. The wingtips should be white, but this is something I didn't discover until a month or so after finishing the build. Oh well...

A 1/9 scale model by ESCI. Extensively weathered and distressed to give the impression of heavy use. The trick to realism in photos such as this is an extremely low camera angle coupled with maximum depth of field. Nothing gives up a model photo more quickly than a shallow depth of field. Be sure to dull any tell-tale plastic shine. Also pay careful attention to the contact point between the tires and the ground. It always looks better if the vehicle appears to have settled into the earth a bit rather than sitting on top of it. Here the front wheels were set to indicate a shallow turn which implies realism. The passenger side door was left partially open to suggest that someone just exited the vehicle and the trunk lid is shown propped open to give the impression of mechanical difficulty. Added realism is achieved by forcing the perspective with a natural background such as the trees in this image. They're full size trees, but several hundred feet back from the model and so appear in scale. If enough subtle realistic clues are incorporated into the photo, the viewer eventually just assumes they are looking at a full scale scene.
Some nasty marks on the inside - no idea what they are. I didn't attach it with CA, but maybe it's from some nearby panel touch-ups which did use CA?
